Pretty much just a win over UF, a ranked win over Auburn, and then a bunch of teams with losing records. Not entirely different than what ours would look like (Though instead of Florida, we'd have SMU + one more likely ranked win)

There's a lot of football yet to be played, and, frankly, I would not be surprised if A&M dropped a "WTF" game against either Tennessee, Ole Miss, or LSU...not to mention Auburn.

I just don't think A&M is bulletproof.

Bolded, agreed. And if the SEC is as great as we're told by their faithful fans and media each year, A&M should reasonably lose one or two of those games.

I did look up a power ranking somewhere and was amused that A&M ascended in the rankings by beating a South Carolina team that ranked well below Houston. We were the beneficiaries of such generous perceptions of conference strength when it came to basketball in the Big East. Unfortunately, AAC football is on the wrong side of that argument.

The SEC isn't as great as you are told. Bama is elite. Florida and A&M are really good. And Georgia is good. The rest of the conference is really, really mediocre. And those top 4 teams are feasting on the bottom half of the conference all the way to their top 10 rankings. If you swapped us with either Florida or A&M I'd argue we could just as easily finish with the same results. Not saying we're any better than them, but that their respective schedule really isn't as impressive as you're led to believe.

What are you basing that on?

In past years, the SEC has been pretty solid even after the top teams.

In 2017, the SEC finished with 5 ranked teams. Out of Conference records for the worst teams in the conference:
last place Tennessee was 4-0, beating 8-5 USM and 5-6 Georgia Tech
2nd to last place Vanderbilt was 4-0, beating 8-5 Kansas State, 7-6 MTSU, and 6-7 WKU
2nd to last place Arkansas was 3-1, with the only loss to #9 TCU. They beat 7-6 NMSU.
4th to last Florida was 1-2, with losses to 8-5 Michigan and 7-6 Florida State. Their win was over 8-5 UAB.

In 2018, the SEC finished with 6 ranked teams. Out of Conference records for the worst teams in the conference:
Last place Arkansas was bad, but still beat Tulsa 23-0
2nd to last place Mississippi went 4-0, beating 5-7 Texas Tech
3rd to last place Tennessee went 3-1, losing to ranked WVU
4th to last place Vanderbilt went 3-1, losing to #5 Notre Dame and beating 8-5 Nevada and 8-6 MTSU.
5th to last place Auburn went 5-0, beating #13 Washington and beating Purdue in the bowl game.

I think the SEC is probably still the best conference, but they don’t seem to be as good as they have been in years past from top to bottom. Maybe that’s because they haven’t been able to pad their wins/loss, but they seem to have several pretty bad teams and in years past they seem to have the elite teams at the top and a lot of solid teams. This year it seems there is a bigger drop off after the top few teams.

Florida jumped Texas A&M. Strange considering A&M beat them head to head.

Also funny that somehow Cincinnati got less votes/points than last week.

I know I should let it go but the pollster from Cleveland is such a B1G homer. How do you put Wisky at #5 after they've played only two games and beat crapper Michigan? I'd love to toss a few rotten tomatoes at his car. I did email him a few weeks back to point out how biased he is.

Shows how useless talk of strength of schedule is. We beat UCF on the road, and end up ranked exactly the same as if we had beaten Abilene Christian at home.

It’s not going to move the needle in the AP. It will help, to some extent, in the CFP rankings.

At the end of the video below Heather Dinich explains how the Strength of Record has aligned closely with what the CFP committee has done in the past. It takes a teams record and compares how an average Top 25 team would do against that same schedule. Apparently UC currently ranks 4th in SoR and she believes that the committee will have us higher than some believe based on that.

Personally I’m still expecting the undefeated P5 teams and a couple 1 loss P5 teams to be ahead of us because of the P5 bias, but I don’t believe most of them should be. I’ll believe they will give us our due when I see it but I guess this gives us an argument at least.

The other issue is that due to conference play only for 99% of the football schedule, everything is tied to pre-season rankings of teams. There is no or very limited out of conference play to change the pre-season rankings. So, if P5 bias existed pre-season (which we know it does every year), then it will show all year regardless of play on the field.

From ESPN:
Following its upset win over Wisconsin, Northwestern now has the best Strength of Record in the country. An average top-25 team would have had a 9% chance to record the 5-0 record that the Wildcats have against they faced. Northwestern is just ahead of Alabama, Notre Dame and Cincinnati, respectively.
