Let's just marinate in this a moment .... a league that collectively loses $10m/year when there isn't a pandemic wants $30m in interest free loans from the Canadian federal government. An interest free loan .... to a sports league that loses money every year .... by a western federal government.
The primary source of revenue, ticket sales, is gone, and TV revenue is minimal. That explains why no bank wants to loan the CFL money to finance this season.
They are proposing a short season, presumably with no tickets sold. A short regular season in which each team plays each other team once would take 9 weeks, then 2 weeks for a 4-team playoff. If they start the first weekend of September, they would end in mid-November, when it is hella cold in Winnipeg, where the stadium is outdoors. So why are they proposing to play outdoors in Winnipeg, instead of indoors in Toronto or Vancouver?
