RE: Best name for new G5 East Coast Conference
I like Mountain Coast Conference, or the Mountain 10.

I know a lot of people are against this for reasons, but what makes football conference big like the ACC and SEC are large public schools with close regional games that create great rivalries. That is what a new G5 east coast conference can provide. Regional conference games that turn into great yearly rivalries and actual meaningful Thanksgiving Weekend Games and Conference games the average fan can get behind.
Marshall
James Madison
Liberty
Old Dominion
East Carolina
Appalachian State
Charlotte
Coastal Carolina
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
UCF
South Florida
Permanent Crossover Games
Marshall - USF, GAST
James Madison - UCF
Liberty - GASO, UCF
Old Dominion - GAST, USF
East Carolina - CLT, CCU
Appalachian State - CLT, GASO
Charlotte - ECU, APP
Coastal Carolina - ECU
Georgia State - ODU, MAR
Georgia Southern - APP, LIB
UCF - JMU, LIB
South Florida - MAR, ODU
What is the best name?
Eastern Conference (Eastern)
Conference East
Big Atlantic Conference
Eastern 12 (E12)
Southern Coast Conference (SCC)
Southern Conference (Buy the SOCON Name from FCS, most of the schools have ties to the SOCON)
Southern Atlantic Conference (SAC)
Mid-Atlantic Concference (MAC? also D3 Middle Atlantic Conference)
East Coast Conference (DII Already but maybe purchase name)
Other?
I like the idea of this, but I think the only way you convince UCF to go for it is by pitting them against App instead of LU.
Not a snowballs chance in hell that UCF would go for this in any format.
I do want to clarify that I'm not saying UCF would actually go for it, but more like if they were to consider it (which they won't).

But, Big Atlantic Conference isn’t bad.
Mountain East is taken.

No AAC schools are leaving for anywhere but the P5. Let's throw out ECU and USF/UCF.
Name? East Coast Conference. No need to be cute. Just be simple and classic.
This is true. So you are left with four SBC teams, three CUSA teams, one independent that nobody seems to want in their conference, and one FCS team that doesn't seem to want to move up. So why should Appalachian State leave a superior conference for this one?
If it was possible to start a new conference from scratch, with the parameters that P5 and AAC schools ain't joining, I would want ten schools:
FIU
FAU
Ga. Southern
Ga. State
Coastal Carolina
Charlotte
App State
ODU
JMU
Marshall
Annual crossovers: FIU-Marshall, FAU-JMU, Ga. Southern-App State, Ga. State-Charlotte, Coastal-ODU
I even made a map for it that I posted on another thread. Apologies for the redundancy.
I like the composition of this conference, just wondering why have divisions? In a no division set up, I see most teams following the following format.
9 confernce games
1 Body Bag road game
1 FCS Buy Game at home
1 G5/independent game (home when you only have 4 confernce home games)
My guess is as a result of COVID scheduling and trying to maximize TV dollars, the SEC is going to move up to 9 conference games. if that happens there are going to be less body bag games available. The extra conference game could come in handy.
I would also consider a non football member to help with basketball scheduling. Ideally you would want VCU, but I can’t imagine them leaving the A-10 for this set up, so maybe North Florida?

The reason for eight non conference games instead of nine is to maximize the quality of the overall schedule. Last year App State played an FCS game, a close-by G5 opponent, and two close-by P5's on the road who are also part of 2-for-1 deals, rather than straight-up, one time on the road "body bag games." That makes for a pleasing non conference schedule.
Frankly, the non conference schedule at the G5 level is arguably more interesting than the conference schedule. Think about it. There is a reason all five G5 leagues play 8 conference games instead of nine.
Eliminating one of the non conference games makes it much harder to schedule P5's in general, P5's at home, and appealing non conference G5 games.

When I think Magnolia, I think of Vandy, Wake, Duke... ...etc.
