St. George's metro area population was up to 176K in 2019. It was the fifth fastest-growing metro area in the U.S. from 2010 to 2019.

A new regional airport to serve St. George was opened in 2011. Currently it handles direct flights from Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Denver.

I've flown in/out the old airport several times taking the Skywest milk run to Salt Lake

Flagstaff>Page>St. George>Cedar City>Salt Lake

Only time I have ever upchucked on a plane was on the Cedar City>Salt Lake leg during a summer thunderstorm in the the little 19-seat I was on.

From an infrastructure standpoint, I think both Dixie State and Tarleton State are good additions to the WAC. Dixie State has very good facilities for being a D2 program and is centrally located in the WAC footprint in one of the most thriving communities in nation. Tarleton State seems to have a grand plan for facility upgrades to fall inline with the rest of the WAC. So far, the WAC has made two great D2 additions in GCU and CBU. Hopefully Dixie State and Tarleton State will follow suit as they grow their brand.

Dixie St has one of the most unique, iconic names for a college. Hope they keep it.

The old airport on top of the hill was always a little scary. I took that route once as well for fun. Beautiful scenery, but really bumpy.

Actually I like this idea. It may revitalize some interest in Utah Valley along the Wasatch front (that and if they had football they would get more attention from the local media).

Imagine the rivalries between Western Utah University (or University of Western Utah), Southern Utah University and Northern Utah University/University of Northern Utah.

Anyone watch Dixie State's music video performed by GENTRI; filmed around the Dixie State campus and the St. George surrounding area?

That isn't just a video, that's a full-fledged cinematic production.
More impressed with Dixie the more I learn about them.
Gotta say though, those outdoor basketball courts look like a prison yard.

Apparently these type of videos are not completely out of the ordinary for Dixie State. This one was done two years ago...

Original name that Brigham Young and Co gave to the region.

You’re still DSU.

Trail Blazers still makes sense as a mascot.
Everyone outside of the WAC would misspell it Desert State
