RE: Game Cancelled
many things have been cancelled way too far in advance in my view. more cases found because more testing is being done. the % of folks that may get really sick and die from it is a tiny fraction and trending downward so I would take more of a wait and see attitude. IMHO

Hey, be a trailblazer and tell your AD to go ahead and forfeit all your games this season.

Hmm. And that includes the biggest non-conference game in the country.

You're right! Gonna be a lot of upset people that have made a lot of plans if the
App/Wisconsin game doesn't get played.

Unlikely that this had anything to do with it. This game is a neutral site game thrown by a promoter. If you're promoting a game ticket sales are a big deal. Can't get but a third of the tickets max, plus whatever people choose not to show up, etc. You'd lose money. New Orleans has already said no to the Bayou Classic because it's a huge event and they know it's a dumb idea to have 100k+ people to descend on their city. If the New Orleans bowl was anywhere near as big as that game they'd likely cancel that one too. And this is really still if the season is even played.
We are also talking about schools only playing conference games. Think of the level of testing schools will have to do this Fall. Not to mention contact tracing after an away game. It's an expense.

I will say this. G5 teams will be the last to cancel. I’d rather not think about the losses that would come financially from not playing football

I was starting to have doubts we'll have a season, but after reading this those doubts are gone.

The fact that these kids are coming on campus, with about a 25% infection rate and are asymptomatic shows a true representation of how many people have this virus as well as have had it and never knew they had it in the general population.

RE: Game Cancelled
NASCAR may be our football saviors. Starting this weekend, 5,000 fans will be allowed at Talladega, I know, that’s a grandstand that holds nearly 160k people, but it’s a start for fans attending events. Their goal is to have 30k at a race next month in Tennessee and Texas also plans on allowing fans. They are the first sporting event to allow fans back in the building in the US, hopefully it’s the beginning of a very positive sign that we can have fans at events.

I just have to ask the obvious question of... do you know how pathetic it is that people give so little thought about folks lives, including these kids playing for the team that they "represent"? I mean we all love football but damn man. It's hard to have any type of common sense and actually come to a conclusion that it's a good idea to have sports in the fall. There may be a point later that these kids remember which side of the fence schools and the ncaa stood on with this one.

Maybe, but the company consequences of not would destroy most D1 athletics programs. We’ve hit that point in this where people just have to take the risks if they want to keep their businesses open. Most states have cut off unemployment. Eventually people will have to learn to brave this

I’m out every day in large crowds, most don’t social distance and masks are never worn. Sure I’ll probably get this, but the alternative is sitting at home and going bankrupt

These lockdowns will hurt the lower quartile of every business and demographic of society disproportionally. I hope those remember which side of the fence people were on.

Meanwhile, NASCAR says “Hold my beer”. 5,000 fans at Talladega, up to 30k in Tennessee next month. Texas will probably have a decent crowd as well.
