Rice Volleyball 2020 Schedule
In the "Between Two Hedges" series, Volpe mentioned that Rice will be hosting Baylor, Texas St., and LSU and will be on the road at Texas. She said that there should be some more strong teams coming in but there are some unkknowns due to COVID and travel.

The 2020 roster has also been updated: https://riceowls.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster

RE: Rice Volleyball 2020 Schedule
I tried asking a question about the possibility of getting Stanford in. They go on the road the first several weeks of each season since classes don't start in Palo Alto until late September, and almost always plays at UT. And they consistently play the toughest OOC schedule in the country. Unfortunately, Mike was wrapping up the call as I was submitting my question.

RE: Rice Volleyball 2020 Schedule
I see Kassidy Muse isn't on the roster anymore - that's a 3-year starter so a bit of a hit. But if our freshmen are ready to play, we should be able to replace her. Hopefully there is a season because we should be quite good again - although the newcomers are going to have to be able to contribute quite a bit, especially on defense.

LSU is led by Taylor Bannister, whose mom is Pennie Goff, a former Rice basketball standout from the early 1980's.

FBO, I think our defense will be improved over last year. Yes, we lose Cunningham, but we bring in one of the Top 5 liberos in the country, and the grad transfer from Butler is by all accounts a defensive stud. According to Genny, she'll even provide competition for the libero role. Wasn't Kassidy replaced as starter by true Freshman, Ellie Bichelmeyer, less than half way through the season? Even with the loss of Morgan, our offense should be elite, especially if Ellie continues to improve and become more consistent with her kill attempts. My only concern going into the season is our ability to block shots. It was a vulnerability, IMO, last season, and we lost our only quality blocker in Morgan.

Sounds like a great schedule. We just have to win some big games.

Looks like we get WKU at home again this Fall, assuming there is a season...

@NCAAVBscores
With UTEP and MTSU's releases, I'm about 99% sure I know the new C-USA schedule format with the addition of Old Dominion in 2020.

The important bit of news here? C-USA powers @WKUVolleyball and @RiceVolleyball should meet just once, either on Fri 10/30 or Sun 11/1, in Houston.

RE: Rice Volleyball 2020 Schedule
Oregon and potential Stanford home games are now axed as the Pac-12 announced conference games only for WVB.

G5 teams are going to have an impossible time trying to boost their RPI with quality OOC games.

Texas State released their schedule today. https://txstatebobcats.com/sports/womens...edule/2020

Looks like the Rice Invitational is Sept. 18-19 with Rice, Texas State, and HBU.
Looks like the Sun Belt has trimmed down conference schedule from 16 to 10 games.

Maybe the remaining conferences can develop their own post tournament?

Not sure who we landed, but this must have been quite the elite recruit since Genny isn't in the habit of tweeting after every commit signs...

I'm guessing this is the 2022 commit-- Gaby Mansfield, Libero, from Klein, TX. She was voted preseason VYPE Houston 2020 Libero/Defensive Specialist of the year...[/quote]

Looks like she was voted 2nd team. Another Klein libero/defensive specialist and Clemson recruit made the 1st team.

Klien is #12 in the AVCA/USA Today preseaon national volleyball rankings. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/hi...621503002/

Really strange. It's exceedingly rare for a team to have a regular rotation of two liberos (since only one can be on the court at a time). Having said that, most teams have both a starting libero and a starting defensive specialist. I wonder which was which on the Klein roster. My bet is that the Clemson recruit is currently a Senior, and a year ahead of Mansfield. (And I'm betting most first teamers are Seniors.)

My bet is that the Clemson recruit is currently a Senior, and a year ahead of Mansfield.

That is correct, according to this Sept. 17, 2019, article: https://www.vype.com/listen-up-kleins-ba...-on-notice

Quote:...studs Annie Antar (North Florida) and Devan Taylor (Clemson) are juniors; sophomores Kierstyn McFall and Gaby Mansfield are national recruits as sophomores ...
