2020-21 Bert Ogden Arena games
"UTRGV schedules three games at Bert Ogden Arena for 2020-21 season"

It's for the TAMUCC and NMSU games.

Slightly disappointing...my dreams of someday beating NMSU always picture it in the fieldhouse, and I think we have a better chance there. On the other hand, the NMSU guys here keep acting like their big arena is a huge advantage, so who knows.

I like it. I'm excited to see our game in Bert Ogden. Not sure why you are taking shots at the Pan Am. The numbers speak for themselves.

Actually my feeling is that NMSU is great because of their players, coaches, and history. I think you'd be just as successful (except for attendance of course) in a UTRGV sized gym.

Conversely, UTRGV will not get to the NMSU level through any amount of nice facilities, even if we played all our games at the BOA. We'll have to get there by some team made up of 2-star recruits hauling themselves into an NCAA bid and top 50 status through heroic effort, then the top tier recruits and the rest will follow afterward.

Speaking of facilities. I know money is always an issue but if basketball is utrgv's main sport then a basketball practice facility should be a top priority. Even uvu got a really nice one.

Why not use your current gym as the practice facility and have all your games in Bert Ogden? A new practice facility may actually turn out nicer than your current gym.

It all works hand and hand. Part of the reason NMSU get good coaches is because of our facilities and fans support. Players come because we have good coaches and more fans come because we win. But yes, it all started with one small gym and a future Hall of Fame head coach (Lou Henson). The Pan American Center is the house that Lou Henson built. And ever since then, NMSU has been fortunate to have had a succession of good coach thereafter.

So, although I don't think Lew Hill necessarily needs a big arena to win games, UTRGV will need nice facilities and the community support to sustain it beyond Hill's tenure. That's unless UTRGV fans wants to continue to jump from coach to coach hoping he can do more with less.

I thought that was the plan when they built Bert Ogden Arena, but something fell apart clearly

Ideas are one thing..... full execution is another and especially when $$$$ is in play.
