Interesting read. Sorry if the article had been posted. I'm hoping to get out here a little more as football season nears.

I would say 2003 is better overall, I wasn't a MAC fan at the time but had a great collection of OOC wins, 2 ranked teams (and a 3rd team ranked much of the year too) including top 10 Miami, a College GameDay visit.

2012 is up there too with NIU's Orange Bowl bid and a MACC featuring 2 ranked teams.

I wish I could go back live through that 2016 season again. Except without the anxiety attack during Ohio's final drive in the MACC.

It was surreal each Sunday morning, logging onto the 'net and thinking, "I wonder where in the Top 15 we'll be ranked this week?"

2016 was the pinnacle of WMU football. A few years later and there is discussion of dropping to FCS.

The discussion has little to do w/ on-field performance. Unemployment at a level not seen since the Great Depression & a mass shutdown of the economy.

Exactly. Not to mention the greatest budget hit the WMU athletic department has ever seen.

I had forgotten the Bobkitties still stayed in the Top 20 after the Bowl loss to Richmond.

I don't know if Boca Rocket was talking current MAC members only, but

Screw Marshall. MAC had to kick them out once for cheating and then they bailed after being readmitted - and cheating again.

2003 seemed to be the best year for the MAC overall. Miami, Marshall, NIU, Toledo, and Bowling Green were all good that year. Can't say what was the best year for WMU but I'd have to think 2016. Very nice to have a MAC team in a big bowl game only 4 years after NIU was in one. We need another MAC team with a top notch QB and solid defense to get back there.
