Coronavirus and sports
While the NCAA talked about having tournament games without fans., F1 has gone one step beyond that. The Bahrain Grand Prix later this month will run without any fans in the complex.

Plus the Chinese Grand Prix has been postponed and could even be canceled.

I guess you missed the memo last week where all Italian soccer games will be played behind closed doors effective immediately.

True I did miss it, but not surprised by the move.

All schools have been closed and the northern part of the country is in shutdown mode.

There is talk that some of the Ferrari team will not be able to get out of the country for next week's Grand Prix.

But stopping the spread of this virus is more important than sports.

Will be weird watching a game with no fans. Fans play a big role in games.

Ivy league cancelled their NCAA Basketball conf tournamnets due to corona virus.

Yale (men) and Princeton (women) awarded auto-bid.

OMG! When they cancel these tournaments due to flu... or H1N1... or any other health scare that are actually MUCH worse, then I will be shocked.

This is just ridiculous.

“NCAA will make call on tournament in coming days
The NCAA is assessing the risk of coronavirus on the upcoming NCAA Tournament, which is set to send thousands of athletes and fans to more than a dozen locations across the country.

‘We are consulting with public health officials and our COVID-19 advisory panel, who are leading experts in epidemiology and public health, and will make decisions in the coming days,’the organization said in a statement.”

RE: Coronavirus and sports
Here is why any overreaction is warranted. The Man City v Arsenal game will be postponed because the owner of Olympiakos was at Arsenal last week and met with a bunch of Arsenal players. He now has Covid-19. That same guy is the owner of Nottingham Forest in the English Championship. He was in his teams locker room last week meeting players and staff.

Now both Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have to be isolated for at least two weeks.

So yes it is about protecting fans. But is also about protecting the teams who need to show up for the NCAA tournament. There is a lot of money at stake and they are trying to protect it.

This screwed every other team. Why not play the games without fans? And how many fans does the Ivy League Tournament attract anyway?

Maybe they would lose money with no fans. Of course, they will probably lose money for all the things that they had to cancel. They just started having a conference tourney in 2018 so this would have been their 3rd one.

I'm sure you're on to something here. The decision surely wasn't made on a whim. I just feel bad for every other team. The door to the Big Dance just slammed in their face. I bet they would travel and play if the option was available. And what's the added risk? They'd encounter fewer people than they do in class.

Just my 2 cents.

Are refs essential?

With people standing by the train tracks saying 'It's probably not go to hit me and you are stupid if you think it is.'
