If you could pick 12 coaches...
If you could pick 12 head coaches to coach against each other in a dream conference who would you pick?

You can do a list of active coaches or a historic, all time list

RE: If you could pick 12 coaches...
If the talent were equal, and using coaches who were active in the 2019-20 season only:

Using the Mississippi River as the dividing line

East Division

Saban
Swinney
Franklin
Chryst
Mullen
Clawson

West Division

Fisher
Patterson
Peterson
Ferentz
Harsin
Leech

I think it would be interesting to see what outstanding coaches like Harsin, Ferentz, and Clawson could do with equal talent.

Great list. Definitely need Dana Bible in the honorable mention. He built programs at Texas A&M, Nebraska and Texas, going 198-72-23 and that included rebuilding Texas with a 3-14-1 start. I'd also include Howard Schnellenberger in honorable mention with the way he built Miami (FL) and Louisville.

Frank Leahy

I considered Leahy, but admittedly forgot about Bible, but if you'll notice I listed coaches and schools for the OP's instruction that it should be a 12 team all time conference. It is why I only took two Notre Dame coaches so Rockne was going to be in my first grouping. I took Parseghian for that 60's time frame. It is also why I have Saban listed with L.S.U. instead of Alabama.

We want a level playing field where no one has a schematic advantage.

Johnny Pont took IU to the Rose Bowl. Last time they went. John Mackovic was a GA in the mid 50s, probably the last one from the Sid Gillam/Woody/Bo era to be a head coach. Took Illinois to the Rose Bowl. Also won SWC and Big 12 at Texas, taking Texas to the Sugar and Fiesta Bowls.

I would have loved to see what PJ could have done with elite offensive lines and running backs. His offenses where very successful with mostly FCS and 2* and 3* prospects. What would he have done with elite recruits. He'd need a quality DC too.

Going to create a new thread along these lines, except the worst CFB coaches.

If we aren’t including recruiting on this you have to include Bill Snyder IMO. Overachiever to the max

I'm putting Eddie Gay Robinson on my hypothetical list.

(But I'd also likely have Big John Merritt of TSU, too, as I appreciate what the HBCUs did back in the day.)
