Can you tell us what Rahne's offense did really well?
I could...but it means nothing because it doesn't mean he's going to do the same thing here.

Ran the ball. Big plays. He used the triangle offense to some degree but not sure we have a TE that he can use for that.
Should we take a quiz?

Sounds like you did not watch any games. They scored about 40ppg with the previous coordinator. The offense struggled. The leading rusher most of the season the QB. The QB who was not a running QB coming out of HS had more carries than the 5* RB. The 5* WR who was the #1 WR in the 2018 class had 3 catches for 20 yds in 2018 and 10 catches in 2019.
Can you explain why Rahne did not get the 5 star RB or the 5 star WR involved in the offense?
A big chunk of those points were in two games vs bad teams. 79 pts vs Idaho and 59 vs Maryland. The team then struggled vs teams like Rutgers and Buffalo. PSU had good defense, good special teams, top 20 recruiting and a weak offense.
You dont have to take my word for it. You wont find ANY B10 rivals telling you PSU had a great offense. They must be trolls. Even the recruiting targets said the offense had problems. JUlian Fleming was the #1 WR in the country. His family members went to PSU. He was from Pa and committed to OSU. He specifically said pointed out PSU's offense had issues. They could not get the previous #1 WR involved in the offense.
YOUR turn. Can you tell us specifically what Rahne's offense did really well? Bring something more to the table than a vague stat that you looked up.

So we see the real intentions of people coming over here from Penn State..... Didn't take long.
We don't care what 5 star WRs did nor do we care what Rahne did at Penn State. We are worried about ODU.

Lighten up Francis
the PSU offense lost star QB Trace McSorley, backup QB Tommy Stevens, 2018 leading rusher Miles Sanders, O-linemen Connor McGovern and Ryan Bates, and wideout Juwan Johnson.
The offense did remarkably well for that level of rebuilding.

So you want me to go back and watch Penn State football games to see what the offense did well? No thanks. You are clearly on here to bash a hire made by a new football program that transitioned to FBS a short time ago. We have a young, energetic guy that has been praised by many. It is funny to see people come to this board with negativity about this hire. You must be a PSU fan that is upset you lost your OC. I'm not buying what you're selling. Move along troll.

interesting with only 5 posts in his history and debating inability to get 5 star recruits. You've got to be new.

As a B1G fan; specifically a THEE Fan I can tell you that PSU’s offense under Rahne wasn’t the most talented that we’d see all year. But they were scrappy and relentless. Zero quit in them. If he can just replicate that here then I think most of us would be happy with the hire. So sick of seeing this team quit out on the field.

I thought he came out with a pretty good game plan most games. His first series was usually pretty solid which was a total 180 from Moorhead. He also ran couple PROs which is ahead of the curve.

To be fair, the 5 star WR and RB were overrated and are not 5 star talents. Shorter kind of outgrew the WR position (IMO) and Slade is really our 4th best back. If Rahne made a mistake is was giving those two guys too long of a chance to break out while the guys behind them were better.

The playcalling in the bowl was super simplistic, which is fine. We were ripping off huge runs on the inside and Memphis refused to put more than 6 guys in the box. Their interim DC did a really poor job as we kept running the same play over and over again and they never did anything to try and stop it.

It did look good and I especially liked watching their offensive line block. Some nice power running occasionally.

Spent the day yesterday with several Penn State football fans / Alums. I will just say they are happy they have gotten the OC from Minnesota. Their comments were RR was decent recruiter, motivator, didn't use players right, had a hard time in big games, and didn't see him as someone that could take PSU to the next level.
