At least half of the student body is from the Birmingham metro area, so "going home" means they're still in town.
How do you know half of the student body is from Birmingham? You do know this isn't a commuter school anymore right?

The red hat official didn't get a police escort out of the stadium.
In fact, he apparently lives somewhere within driving distance because I talked to him on the way outside of the stadium.
I couldn't tell but it looked like the La Tech receiver stepped out of bounds at some point.
Then again, I believe we should have been a 1/2 yard short on our 4th down pass from the punter.

From the statistics that UAB publishes. Of all undergraduate students this semester, 32.1% are from Jefferson County, and 18.2% are from "Other Metro Area Counties," which they define as Blount, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker. That's over 50% right there. That number really should include the likes of Chilton, Talladega, Calhoun, Bibb, Cullman and others. If it did, I bet the percentage would be closer to 70%.

I take it that's your way of saying, "You were right, and I was wrong to question the accuracy of your statement."
The bottom line is that we're an 8-3 football team fighting to defend our first ever championship and we had pathetic support from the students on what turned out to be a beautiful afternoon for football, and there really isn't an excuse for it. I really don't understand it. In the past we had much more student turnout for teams that weren't close to being competitive.

Yeah I almost fell out of my seat when they confirmed that call. I could live with stands, but confirmed was nuts to me.

Nope. That was not my way of saying what you are implying. You were correct but I wasn't wrong to question the accuracy of your statement since you did not initially provide any proof to support your statement.

He was right, just admit it and move on lol...
The turnout was pathetic for this team, but our attendance overall has really improved since the return. It should continue to trend upwards with the trajectory of our program.

RE: Smaug's $0.02
Thanksgiving break killed the student turnout Saturday (although my son and a bunch of his buddies showed up).
They don't really have an excuse for the UTEP game other than opponent apathy. My son was present as well and we enjoyed a great time together. He is a Junior now and we came to the realization that we haven't witnessed a game together since he was a Sophomore in High School (USM in Hattiesburg) due to the shutdown and fraternity duties.
Another factor in the less than desired attendance was the fact that AU and UA had their cupcake games on the same weekend. Many couples plan Fall weddings on this weekend for that reason. I know of several fans that had to attend such weddings.
It is what it is...ugh!

I never said he was wrong. I asked him how did he know over half of UAB's student body was from Birmingham Metro and he provided the link to his source information which he didn't do in his initial response. After he posted his source I said ok. You can follow the rest of the discussion (I think). Why would I admit he was right when I never said he was wrong. That's just plain ole stupid....lol

Of course I hope he stays a good, long time, but given what he's already done for us, if he left tomorrow I'd still want to erect a statue of him outside the FOB. That, and we are not the dumpster fire we were when he got here. We are as an attractive gig as most non-cartel schools. And we have him to thank for that, too.
Erect is definitely a word that comes to my mind when I think of Bill's influence on UAB football

RE: Smaug's $0.02
I had a discussion with other fans in the Blazer Club about replays. We all agreed but were still unsure. The discussion was about how many cameras are used by the officials at Legion. We all agreed that the bare minimum (we don’t know how many that is) required by the league are used. I’m almost positive we don’t have pylon cams and all the bells and whistles other stadiums have. That’s why we all agreed that both calls that went to review were not changed. Just a thought.

Spoke to a friend on faculty at Arkansas who used to be at UAB. He said Clark would be insane to step into that snakepit

Now now now, Dennis Dodd said Clark would crawl to Arkansas to accept the job. Sometimes I think Dodd is doing more than just CBD.

That's a fact. When I first read that, I thought- are we talking about the same Arkansas here? The absolute dumpster fire in Fayetteville? I also thought about Dana Holgorsen leaving West Virginia (Big XII school) to go to Houston (AAC school) as an example that being in a power 5 conference isn't the be-all-end-all. Might ultimately be proven wrong, but I don't see Clark going to Arkansas. What I do worry about is when Gus Malzahn's buyout gets low enough for Auburn to throw him overboard in a couple of years.
