That’s awesome, you should be proud of him and his perseverance. He put on a few pounds and is now excelling at LB; and his special teams play makes me think he’ll get another look from the NFL.

Holley was released by Miami today. Hopefully he gets a shot with the practice squad.

RE: Nate Holley CFL Rookie of the Year
Holley was added to Miami's practice squad. Disappointment he didn't make the team but practice squad is nothing to be ashamed of. In addition to having a chance to impress an NFL coaching staff and to play against elite players every day, practice squad players are actually paid pretty damn well. The current rate for a practice squad player with under 2 years experience is $8400 per week... Yes, per week, not per month. If you're able to stick on a practice squad for the full 17 week season that would be $142,800 for around 4 months of work.

Promoted to active roster today. Congrats on a long journey, perseverance and dedication. Hoping you stick around and get a chance to prove you can compete at that level.

That promotion is a week to week thing. Saw a tweet 2 hours ago from the Miami Dolphins that he has been promoted to the active roster for this Sunday's game as well.

I believe you can be promoted for two games then they have to sign you to the active roster.

A little late on this as I just noticed it, but BS on the CFL holding his previous charges against him. He played there 2 years ago after being found NOT GUILTY of those charges yet today he can’t play there?!?

Wow. I've heard of guilty until proven innocent but I can't say I've heard of guilty after proven innocent.

He wasn't proven "innocent". He was found not guilty. An entity such as the CFL isn't bound by a criminal court finding, where the standard is "beyond a reasonable doubt". They have their own standards, usually "preponderance of the evidence". I don't know what he did or didn't do, but such an action is not unusual at all. Go way back to the Black Sox, who were acquitted but banned from baseball, nonetheless, by Kennesaw Mountain Landis. O.J. was acquitted but found responsible in a civil case. Violence against women is taken VERY seriously nowadays. Some truly innocent men probably get burned. Maybe he is one of them?

Point is, that verdict was rendered in 2017, 2 years before he played there in 2019, but today they take this stand? Curious.

Agree. Very odd. All I can figure is that violence against women being a much more hot-button issue than even a couple of years ago, the CFL took a second look. Maybe they are concerned about women's groups protesting and the like?

Canada can pretty much decide to not let you in the country for any reason, even minor offenses. There was a whole thing about the professional wrestling manager Jim Cornette not being allowed into Canada because he had been arrested (but never charged or convicted) of assault when he was attacked by a fan in Alabama and retaliated back. Forget getting into Canada if you have a DUI.

In their first game he recovered a fumble and got to the QB for a big loss after a botched snap. It wasn't ruled a sack though.
