Bracket Central
Lots going on this weekend in Rice Athletics. But I thought we could use this thread to keep pace with the two tournaments Rice is playing in - the CUSA volleyball championships (which we host at Tudor), and the Bahamas men's basketball tournament. In addition to those two tournaments, there is also the final home football game of the season (2:30 pm Saturday vs. UNT), the women's basketball team on the road Saturday at Oklahoma State, and some other events.
In volleyball, here's the schedule for Friday
(1) WKU vs. (8) Middle Tennessee, 12 noon
(4) Marshall vs. (5) Florida Atlantic, 2 pm
(2) Rice vs. (7) UTEP, 5 pm
(3) North Texas vs. (6) UTSA, 7 pm
In men's basketball, here's the tournament bracket for Friday
10 am - Liberty (5-0) vs. Morgan State (3-2)
1 pm - Rice (4-2) vs. Milwaukee (4-1)
4 pm - Kansas City (2-3) vs. George Washington (1-3)
7 pm - Evansville (3-1) vs. East Carolina (1-3)
As I stated the other day, our side of the bracket seems much tougher (although Evansville did upset then #1 Kentucky on the road, before losing by 2 at home the other night to SMU). Interestingly, the other three teams in our side of the bracket have all played a team on the other side of the bracket (and won all 3 - Milwaukee beat Kansas City, Liberty defeated East Carolina, and Morgan State topped George Washington). Still, I think 2-1 would be a decent result in the tournament (but not in the volleyball tournament - it's 3-0 or bust there).

The basketball games are streamable through FloHoops, which requires a subscription. So most people will be unable to watch us play in a ballroom with a ceiling that looks like it might very well block some shots.

I’ll give the organizers a pass given that the original venue is hosting hurricane refugees. Still looks like a great place to spend some time before Thanksgiving as Nassau and it’s surroundings were largely unaffected by the hurricane to my understanding.

Oh yeah, definitely not blaming the organizers or anybody. Bad circumstances all around, obviously. Just one of the oddest looking games I've ever seen from the pictures I've seen on Twitter. For reference:

Was wondering if there was a way around that. Appears not to be. I think I have NFL Network though, so tomorrow should be good.

MTSU calls their second time out trailing 8-14. WKU jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and it's been about even since.

Well both men's basketball team and the women's volleyball team won their 1st rounds today. I'd call that a good day's work! Hope for more victories tomorrow!
