RE: This Season's games UPDATED 11/610/2019
#14 Memphis moved down one to #36 Kenpom (originally #48) and rockets up from #113 to #99 in the BPI (originally #124) after dealing with James Wiseman all week, losing in Portland to Oregon and taking it out on Alcorn State.

UTK and Cincinnati are the only opponents left on our schedule in the KenPOM top 25, NC State, Houston, Mississippi, Georgia, Wichita State, UCONN, SMU and Temple all land between 26-100.

Trendon Watford averaging 12 and 5 for 3-1 LSU with wins over BGSU (88-79) and Nichols State (75-65) and a loss @ VCU (84-82)

USF is sinking fast, down 40 spots, losing, at home, to Boston College and IUPUI. No one in the American has made any noise yet. UCONN is @ Florida today. Houston is @ Oregon Friday. Temple is @ Maryland next week. AAC has a very weak OOC schedule this season.

RE: This Season's games UPDATED 11/17/2019
Mississippi moves up to 51 in KenPom after losing to us and Memphis moves down to 43. What a crock. And ESPN BPI has us up to #98! but has USF (2-2) @ #102 (losses to Boston College and IUPUI, wins against Arkansas Pine Bluff and Wofford) and Houston (2-2) @ #31 (losses to BYU and Oregon, wins against Alabama State and Rice).

NC State has 2 common opponents with us, beating Alcorn State 87-64 (23 points, we won by 46) and Little Rock 74-58 (16 points, we won by 10). NC State's leading scorer is CJ Bryce (17 & 7) They get balanced scoring with 4 in double figures and 4 more over 7 ppg and they have 2 players hitting more than 40% from 3 and 2 more in the 30s. Surprisingly we have 3 players shooting over 50% from 3 ( Maurice, Lomax and Baugh) and Jefferies and Harris shooting over 30%. But we know how statistics lie.

They have 4 guards playing over 28 mpg. DJ Jefferies plays 25.5 mpg, our highest.

UTK is the only top 25 opponent left on our schedule.

UCONN beat Florida, but then lost to Xavier. I believe this is the only AAC top 25 win.

High Point is 0-6 including a 39 point loss to Belmont.

RE: This Season's games UPDATED 11/24/2019
KenPom and the ESPN BPI continue to give our losing opponents more credit than li'l ol Memphis for winning with 2 starters out. ESPN BPI has us at #91! one spot below SMU and one spot above UNC Greensboro who lost to Montana State who lost to Grand Canyon (3-5) who lost to Davenport University who plays in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, or as we like to say, the GLIAA.

Kenpom is only a little better letting us slide up to #41. Anyone who thinks there are 40 teams better than the one we have on the court now is a little looney, add Wiseman and Quinones and their just plain lying.

UTK is the only top 25 opponent left on our schedule.

8 games until Wiseman plays.

#15 AP, #18 Coaches...Kenpom now has us at #39, Bradley #129, UAB #149. Those will be 2 good (not great) wins heading into the Tennessee game.

ESPN, with their amazing wisdom, still has us ranked at #91??????? One above New Mexico State at 4-4. There is something terribly wrong here. SMU #89, Mississippi #81, UCF #74, Wichita State #73, Temple #59, UConn #53, Cincinnati #43, NC State #32, Houston #30, Oregon #6. According to the software engineers, mathematicians, and basketball experts at ESPN's BPI, we should finish 8th in the AAC, even Tubby didn't do that.

ESPN's BPI is seriously flawed - their preseason bias is bad. I think they have tried to mimic KenPom's algorithm, and they can get close as the season progresses. But as bad as KenPom's early season bias is, ESPN's is much worse.

KenPom now has us @#34 and even the BPI has us all the way up to #79, predicting us now to finish 6th in the AAC.

Stories from around the AAC comes this "K.J. Lawson scored a career-high 30 points on 10-of-12 shooting and Tulane (7-1) beat Southern 82-65 on Sunday."espn
East Carolina has managed to sink to such a low level it doesn't seem possible. at 2-7 they have lost to Navy, App State, Liberty, the Kangaroos of UMKC, Rice, James Madison and Coppin State. Football went 4-8 with wins over UCONN, Garner Webb, William and Mary and Old Dominion.

KenPom now has us @#29 and even the BPI has us all the way up to #72 right between 7-3 Georgetown and 6-4 Boise State. Total BS IMHO, we are 9-1 with 2 real road wins, one against a #21 (and they're still ranked ahead of us) opponent, and only loss was a neutral (really road) game against #11 Oregon.

According to ESPN BPI, we are 6th in the AAC.

Calipari and Pastner played last night. Cal won. Oregon beat #5 Michigan and fell a spot in the absolutely idiotic ESPN BPI. Anthony Edwards, Georgia's one-n-done, averaging 19.8 pts, 2.2 stl, 3 ast, 5.2 reb. LSU's Watford avg 13.1 pts, 0.7 stl, 1.3 ast, 5.8 reb. Our own Precious Achuiwa 13.3 pts, 1.2 stl, 0.8 ast, 9.9 reb.

5 games until Wiseman.

I understand you calling out the silly BPI. But I sorta hate that you're giving it any publicity. Like it's legitimate or something. It's bad and not taken seriously by anyone.

KenPom still, 2 weeks later, has us @#29 (#9/#10) and with 10-3 Houston @28 and 10-1 Wichita State @31. Tennessee has fallen all the way to 46. BPI now considers us the second best AAC team behind Houston.

Tulane rolls in tomorrow. They lost to Mississippi State, Saint Louis, Akron and Towson. Best win seems to be Utah #108 KenPom. KJ Lawson averaging 14 ppg, 5.5 rpg second behind Teshaun Hightower.

Georgia has lost to Dayton, Michigan State and Arizona State. They beat SMU in overtime.Beat Chaminade by 3, Georgia Southern and the Citadel by 9. Anthony Edward plays 30 minutes, scores 20 ppg, 5 rpg 3 assists and 3 turnovers. Their other threat is Hammonds, 6'9" Jr averaging 9 ppg, 13 rpg.

RE: This Season's games UPDATED 12/15/2019
Not having DJ (in other words losing) Saturday might have really screwed seeding up for us. I know he’d have played better than Maurice/Dandridge (why just 2 minutes?)/Thomas. Our schedule looks worse and worse every day. UTK, Mississippi, NC State and UAB are dragging us down as much as losing Saturday is. Plus, our bad teams on the schedule are really, really bad. We really need to drop the under 300 type teams for under 150 type teams.

A few past coaches and player notes

High Point 3-11 have beaten Belmont Abbey, Elon and Greensboro College. Kenpom #342 out of 353.

Ramblin’ Wreck 7-7 have played a very tough schedule, the opposite of us and why a tough schedule can kill you too. Kenpom #88

Jamal Johnson for the undefeated Auburn Tigers plays 13 minutes a game, averages 5.5 ppg and shoots 42.9% from 3.

David Nickelberry averages 11 minutes and 2.1 ppg for the 9-5 Buffalo Bulls.

Myreon Jones for 12-2 (1-1) Penn State averaging 29 mpg shooting 40% from 3 and 13.8 ppg.

David Wingett at 11-7 (already played 18 games!) SDSU avg 23 mpg, 36% from 3 and 8.4 ppg

RE: This Season's games UPDATED 1/13/2020
Our schedule continues to disappoint. It contains, according to Kenpom:
2 top 25 losses
1 top 100 loss
4 top 100 wins, no top 50 wins
5 top 200 wins
4 wins to teams under 250
So, no great wins, but no bad losses. We are going to have 5 chances to prove something positive and many chances to make ourselves look worse. We really need to win at all our home games, and not lose a road game to anyone ranked below 100.

RE: This Season's games UPDATED 02/02/2020
Sorry for the week or 2 with no updates. I could blame my moving and my new internet , but Tiger depression is closer to the truth. Anyway, we were in a fight for a top seed, now we’re in a fight for a seed at all. Jefferies injury doesn’t help the cause unless your cause is 2020-21.

I still think we end up in the sweet sixteen

To make everyone feel a little better, we are now 345 out of 350 teams in turnovers per game. Only Northwestern State, SFA, Chicago State, Central Arkansas and Arkansas Pine Bluff are worse and only by a fraction of a turnover. The good news is you have to climb way up that stat to find a winning team.

Also, we are 16-5 and ranked in the top 50 in every defensive category and #2 behind Virginia in defensive efficiency and #3 in blocks per game and #24 in steals. Cut down the turnovers and we are a great team!

Also, Georgia Tech is 4-7 (10-12)
High Point is 6-16 and ranked #344 out of 353 in Kenpom

RE: This Season's games UPDATED 02/02/2020
If we go 5-5 or better over the last 10 games, then I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Houston twice, @Cincy, @SMU, and Wichita will all be very hard.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but we are lucky to not have to play Tulsa twice.
20-11 likely. Hope I’m very wrong.

All we have to do is win our home games to go 5-5. I think we are better than that.

Tulsa will lose again but it will be on the road. They still have to go to Houston, to Wichita, and Temple. I think they lose 2 out of those 3. Their other games are away to cupcakes or at home.
