RE: Unofficial 2021 Football Recruiting Thread
EMU gets a verbal from Carter Evans, brother of Samson Evans.
He is a very highly rated multi-positional player. Great get.
Carter was/is very high on my list of 2021 targets. Has over 20 offers including multiple ACC offers.

He looks like Madd Maxx coming off the edge on D!

Think he can play a lot of positions.
On offense can be the up back in goal line situations. Valuable to have!!!

Very excited to have him onboard! From some of the coaches comments on twitter it sounds like the plan is for him to play on the d-line.
247 listed him as a tight end and rivals has him as an athlete. Both sites have him listed as a three star (which is saying something for rivals because they are usually much more stingy making a guy a three star). Rivals also list him as the number 31 athlete in the whole country. A huge recruit for us!

Nice recruit.
It'll be interesting to see how this 2020 affects recruiting. With some high schools playing and some not and with summer camps cancelled the inexact science of player evaluation will become even more inexact.

Should be fun to see how EMU plays him.
I like him as an edge rusher.
I also like him out of the backfield. Sounds crazy, but his brother I think can run the option offense and Carter would be the up back ala the way Army runs it.
Wouldn't it be neat to see us spring that on someone!!!
I don't think TE is his most valuable position.

We have decent depth at TE. We really need an impact DE for pass rush pressure which we didn't do consistently last year.

Steve the option, wishbone or veer offense depending on what you want to call it is NOT a crazy idea. The service academies and Georgia Tech have gotten more with less talent using such for years. Harkema beat a far more talented SJSU team in the California Bowl where the MAC was absolutely getting pounded because he switched to the wishbone and SJSU was woefully unprepared to defend. It baffles me that P5 conference doormats like Rutgers don't look into employing the system, you won't win a National Championship with it but Rutgers just ain't gonna win that no matter what but they could actually attain a respectable conference record.
I would have ZERO problem creating an "option squad" for certain downs and perhaps certain possessions. Bring in the beef on the O-Line, just straight ahead blocking with no need for agility and speed and those D-Ends like Maxx with great hand technique and speed on the other side? No longer a problem.
I like the idea Steve.

I don't mind seeing this as some sort of occasional package or for a good matchup vs a certain opponent. Utilizing this as your primary offense long-term does make it extremely difficult to recruit high-caliber athletes with NFL dreams on offense.

The best player on this team to run those formations is Grisson in my opinion

Seems like a good get. Not rated by 247 yet, but a relatively impressive offer list with schools like Cincinnati, Tulane, Troy, Arkansas State, etc.

Will get a ton of interest as a SEC transfer with a good tape.

Looks like most Power 5 teams will not sign more than 20 guys this year because of 2020 not counting as a year to use eligibility. That means that programs in the MAC should be able to take advantage and sign guys who would have gone to Power 5 teams.

Very good point. We HAVE TO find a handful of guys that can play LB, DE and CB. We are giving up 36 points per game. YIKES!
