4 year old Florida State fan selling lemonade to buyout Willie Taggart
From CBS Sports
Quote:The Tallahassee Democrat reports that Clayton Grant, a 4-year-old Florida State fan who lives in Tallahassee, set up a "Free Willie" lemonade stand in front of his grandmother's house. He charged $20 per cup and raised $241 in three hours, which his father matched and donated to Seminole Boosters. The Grants sent a letter with the check that explained its purpose.
"I am tired of losing football games and being made fun of at school for being a Seminole fan," Grant wrote. "At four, I am already starting to gravitate towards the color orange. You don't want that for an innocent kid like me…."

$17 million goal, even at $20 a cup is a lot of lemons.

That buyout is going to leave big holes in the accounts of some FSU boosters.
Even if they grit their teeth and wait until after the 2020 season to can Taggart, they'll still owe him a $12.75 million buyout at that point.

Plus the additional year's worth of salary. I'm not sure what he makes, but I imagine it's a few million.
Might not be much difference between firing him this year or next...financially speaking.

If you pay a guy more than you can afford to buyout, you probably ought to learn from that and lower your pay in future hires.

This is an area which will only become more sensitive to Florida State as the revenue gap with the SEC and Big 10 grows. Yes, there are enough athletes and enough of a history at FSU for them to compete on the field, but justifying large sums for a salary of the head coach when competing against schools earning 20 to 30 million more in media revenue is going to be an obstacle. And after 2025 that gap will grow. What's more the gap is in actuality already larger due to gate and donations.
So in a market where obviously premium coaches are in short supply it places them at a disadvantage.

The longer Florida St and Clemson stay in the ACC the harder and harder it will be for them to keep up with the revenue juggernauts in the SEC and Big Ten.

I’ve been saying this for quite awhile. If you’re Clemson and Florida State, it’s one thing to accept you’re always going to be behind Alabama and Ohio State. Another thing is to be behind Missouri and Minnesota. The ACCN better starts delivering fast otherwise those two schools will start getting anxious and it will be a matter of time before one of them or both starts challenging the GOR. The gap between the B1G, SEC even the Big XII is getting wider and it’s not looking good for the ACC short and long term.

No, all the media money that Disney and Fox will ever pay isn't enough to help Mizzou or Minny run with the big dogs in their own conference, or even recruit well enough to consistently compete with them, because the big dogs get the same amount of media money while keeping their huge advantages in ticket revenue and donations.
Florida State just needs to find competent football coaching, because they will still have all of their built in advantages over 12 of their 13 ACC opponents, while Missouri, Minnesota, Rutgers, Vandy, etc. will always be looking up at the football Goliaths in their own conference.

All of that is true, but it will have nothing to do with their pressure to leave for more, because they aren't just competing with the ACC. In fact in the ACC even when they are mediocre they are only competing with Clemson. They know that on the national level they are competing with Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, L.S.U., Wisconsin, and Penn State and they are competing right there in Florida where all of them recruit.
That's why they will move if the disparity grows too large.

Horrible parenting and some pretty odd flex attempt by the father as you are not the top tier giver, but next from the top. It was mentioned more than once.
And selling liquor w/o a license...typical "Florida Man". Wonder if he brags about his AMEX Platinum Card.

The difference now is that Minnesota and Missouri can afford to pay assistant coaches more and offer state-of-the-art amenities to recruits. That’s where I can see schools like Clemson and Florida State getting anxious if the tv money gap with the B1G and SEC keeps getting wider. The advantages they used to have over the likes of Minnesota and Missouri will be gone.

I don’t believe a 4 year old understands buyouts and all that stuff. It’s like the 6 year old boy who was “concerned” about the wall and raised money selling lemonade. Parents shouldn’t be using their kids to advance an agenda regardless if it’s for a political fundraising or a football coach’s buyout.
