Since few people remember that the Southern Conference from 1933 to 1953 was what is now the ACC, and forget that until the the 800 SAT rule was applied in the 1963 that Conference Bowl record was fairly robust - the big 4 bowls were the Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Cotton, the Gator was fifth so if you use these five as the segway to a comparison with today's NY6 you have the following:

39 Rose - Duke
40 Cotton - Clemson
42 Rose - Duke
45 Sugar - Duke
46 Gator - Wake Forest
46 Gator - South Carolina (yes WF and SC played each other)
47 Sugar - UNC, Gator - NC State
48 Sugar - UNC. Gator - MD
49 Cotton - UNC, Gator - Clemson
50 Gator - MD
51 Orange - Clemson, Gator - Washington & Lee
52 Sugar - MD, Gator. Clemson

23 p-5 equivalent bowl games over 24 years is major.

The difference between the Pacific Conference and the ACC was that when the Pacific reconstituted itself as the Pac-5 they took all the prior records of the PCC. The ACC left those records with the remains of the Southern Conference.

The 800 SAT rule led to a down period that did not end until MD resurfaced in 75 at the Gator Bowl, and then in 76 at the Cotton Bowl. The next year Clemson was at the Gator Bowl and got Woody Hayes fired. Of course by 82 Clemson won the Orange Bowl and the NC.

It was about 15 years in the wilderness from 1933 until the current day. 15 years out of almost 90 years.

The P5/G5 has only existed since 2014. Since that date I believe UH has the best record against P5 opponents at 8-3. Boise I believe is number two and I think USF is number three. Thats excluding BYU, who I think has one or two more wins than Houston but quite a few more losses as well.
