Found this tweet thread in response to the article. This guy does a history podcast called Revolutions, which is really really good. He covered the French Revolution in a lot of depth and is currently living in France researching a Lafayette biography.

tl;dr: The article is pretty ahistorical. The historian she cites as "heroically non-ideological" didn't like hearing he'd been described that way. A college asking its faculty to consider the ways mundane language can be hurtful to people with marginalized identities is really really really different than the Reign of Terror. But maybe that's why she calls it a hiccup?
