I'd play it this way: Don't call ourselves National Champs, but go on every talk show, ESPN show, interview, etc., etc., and use it as an argument for expansion of the playoff with an automatic bid going to the AAC, or at least to the top rated non-P5 school.

The argument would hold more water with the AAC delivering two undefeated teams (including a win in whatever NYD bowl we'd win in this hypothetical).

It doesn't change anyone's mind about whether to expand or not, but it could be used as fuel for inclusion when and if playoff expansion occurs.

Yes, it is the same as some teams claiming a farmer's almanac championship, back when only two major polls were used to determine the champion... but if the NCAA has it in their record books, then it is true.

Yes, I would pull a UCF. It would make the p-5 seem somewhat impotent. Entitlement is earned not given because a real true champion takes on all worthy challengers and prove their worth.
