Construction progress on the IPF/Bubble
None

I cycled through campus today and went to look at the new facility. There is no sign of anything. No flags, no stakes, no markings I could see. I thought they were trying to get it finished in August. I cannot see how that happens now.

Maybe they're testing the quick-up nature of the bubble? Going to put it up just-in-time for football practices in August? And when does women's soccer practice start? They may need it, too.

*scratching his head for any other possible positive spins on it*

Rice has never done facilities well or right, at least not since I first got to the university. You'd expect that to change now?

In the February Thresher article, Mello was noncommittal on the completion date. He said it could be as early as August if the $3 million in donations was received in time.

So it's sort of like building a highway... they will start as soon as the money is available.

Nothing like announcing total victory before being engaged or even knowing what you are involved in. Such is the not for profit world of irreality, total fantasy and OPM. I'm announcing that I will be donating 10% of my lottery winnings. Would that be helpful?

OPM stands for other people's money.

Who announced total victory?

Of course it's other people's money. No money trees on campus.

I think the money is there unless something has changed recently. They may have been a bit naive with the permitting.

RE: Construction progress on the IPF/Bubble
well at least the greenbriar construction seems to be in the final legs with the section between Rice and University closest to the stadium now open. Guess the deadline to finish the whole section from University to Holcombe must be close. After months of nothing, they seemed to have woken up. Horrible written contract to allow them so much time. The Empire State Building was built in less time than Greenbriar

If you traverse the whole length, there’s still 2 or 3 sections left to do including one side of the street between Rice and University. The project is scheduled to be concluded by December. The parts south of Roberts Elementary were done beautifully. Will be a great day once the whole darn thing is complete. It’s led more folks to drive through Rice’a campus, complete mess between Christ the King and Island Grill and don’t get me started on some of Morningside issues by Holcombe

Quote:The construction of Rice Athletics’ indoor practice facility has been delayed and is not expected to be completed until after Beer Bike, according to Deputy Athletic Director Rick Mello. Mello said the primary reason for the delay has been difficulty with establishing electronic circuitry to the facility, and a misunderstanding between Rice and its electrical contractor.

Even more of a reason to build a permanent facility.
