Okay so I am ready for the new season to finally begin! Seems like a couple million years since the last one ended.

Nice Tribune article with maybe the quote of the summer:

"We're going to make sure we utilize the talent on our team. We're not looking to just run a bunch of plays over and over and over."

Coach Hammock has watched a ton of tape from last year, he felt the same pain and nausea the rest of us did. That offense was impotent.

Pain and nausea. That ALMOST describes it. 04-cheers

I am really liking what I am reading about Tears: “I just shook Tears’ hand a week ago because I was proud of the work he put in this summer,” Hammock said. “He’s taken a step up along with some other guys in that group. They’ve taken accountability.” https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/a...story.html

Tears and Ritchie on the outside, too bad it looks like Collins didn't make it on campus because he would have been a great slot-WR. From early reports, true Freshman Michael Love could emerge as the slot or maybe Leon Payne can breakthrough.

No matter what, this year's Passing production will be much improve (can't be worse than the last few years).

Any word on Fabian McCray? Thought he would play right away

The NIU linebackers are ranked 24th in the nation in the top 25 linebacker units for 2019. It is always great to see our guys get national recognition!

The LBs will be solid. Pugh is one of all my all time favorite Huskies. If he stays healthy, he'll have a monster year.

In the Hustle Belt Top 25 MAC Players of 2019, Tre Harbison is #12 and Jack Heflin is #19.

https://www.hustlebelt.com/2019/8/20/208...son-rb-niu

https://www.hustlebelt.com/2019/8/13/207...lin-dt-niu

Her's the list so far:

https://www.hustlebelt.com/2019/8/7/2075...-list-2019

Spencer Tears is in the "best of the rest" https://www.hustlebelt.com/2019/8/6/2075...-rest-2019

I would expect to see Antonio Jones-Davis in the top 10.

Lance Deveaux is struggling with a nagging injury. He sounds questionable for ISU.

Yardbarker picks NIU to win the MAC: https://www.yardbarker.com/college_footb...12#slide_6

If you want a good laugh, watch this preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEyen3g-Amk

The guy on the right, in addition to some other goofy things, toward the end talks about how bad the O will be this year, and not able to score like last year! Haha. so much for expertise!

At about 5:10 the guy on the left reads this Marcus Jones quote: "Quite frankly, it's the most I've learned in the four years I've been here. It's probably the hardest I've been coached." This and the other statements by the players makes it clear that the players view Hammock and the new coaching staff as a significant positive and are totally on board.

Coach Hammock Previews the 2019 Season on a radio show:

http://morninganswerchicago.com/2019/08/...19-season/

Nothing revealing, except it seems clear that Harbs will be the feature back, which I expected and I am happy about.

Hustle Belt staff predicts the 2019 MAC season:

https://www.hustlebelt.com/2019/8/26/208...maction-hb

Pretty good discussion about the upcoming season. For what it is worth - Dave Drury: "Best first-time starter in the MAC — Ross Bowers from NIU. The Cal transfer has a big arm and, unlike the QBs coached by Rod Carey/Mike Uremovich, he won’t just throw underneath every play."

All four (including Drury) pick Ohio over NIU is the MACC.

I was listening to ESPNU radio and while talking about Nebraska’s opponents the analyst said “NIU will be taking a step back this year”....contrary to this article and really anyone who takes time to analyze the situation of the team

These guys are focused on the MAC in this and they all are favorable toward our dogs. It’s just funny because the big time ESPN guys only see losing Smith and a new head coach

I like the conclusion in this preview: "There’s no reason to think the NIU Huskies can’t win the division and/or double digits again when all is said and done."
