RE: UConn Leaving the AAC
Navy move from the west division to the east... NIU pretty much slots in. I’d actually say Western Kentucky is a more reasonable replacement for us than UConn moving to the MAC. UConn is better off staying the the AAC for football or going independent like Liberty and UMass.

RE: UConn Leaving the AAC
This link to SBNation story from January talks about Uconn's financial and attendance problems, and points toward a drop to FCS. Some interesting commentary that examines the issue of UConn football from Uconn's point of view. prior to the recent Big East flurry. It's a basketball school, primarily.

Anyway, just for interest ...

The CAA is a geographic fit for UCONN and a very good football conference. That might end up being a better move for them than playing home and homes with New Mexico State every year.

BYU thinking it could be a good move, read the comments at the bottom.

BYU won't join a non P5 conference while Utah is in a P5 conference. It's just that simple, their arrogance knows no bounds

If you’re referring to the comment where the poster says BYU lost to NIU and probably will in 2020, I read that as a backhanded compliment to NIU. Maybe a bit cynical, but i don't think it was complimentary of NIU.

Read an article yesterday that said the conference was staying with the current teams they have - no BYU, Army or Boise.

Good for us. God willing we have our attendance up, 2-3 years of reliable state financing, and maybe some stadium improvements in place before the next reorganization melee hits.

No matter what NIU does on the field, if the ESPN deal is in place, attendance will only continue to drop. Sad state of reality we are in right now :(

NIU has squandered the last decade trying to get its house in order and fix a broken university when it could it have been investing and positioning for the future. I would imagine when you start running the numbers adding a team like NIU to the AAC would result in a swift no thanks. Outside of decent football by MAC standards, the school brings little else to the table.

@Brett_McMurphy said that The American (Conference) will go to ESPN and ask them ‘If we ask School A to join what will our value be?’ ‘If we ask School B/C/etc what will our value be?’ just now on J&J Show on 92.9

Compher and Frazier were just the completely wrong people at the critical time.

NIU enrollment dropping and Illinois being in a financial crisis put state schools in a difficult position. You put way too much blame on the ADs.

In the past 10 years, Illinois' directional schools (NIU, WIU, SIU, and EIU) have seen an enrollment drop of 30 percent, but yeah let's blame the ADs...
