Bearcat Austin Squires falls short in US Open Qualifier at Springfield CC
Austin Squires unfortunately fell three strokes shy of gaining one of the five qualifying spots at Springfield (OH) CC. A Donald Ross design with unbelievable sloped quick greens. His two round total of 139 was good for one under par on the par 70 course which normally plays at par 72.

I've been fortunate to play the course several times and the slope quick greens are a bear.

Austin had the second best amateur score for the day.

Congrats to Austin for a great Bearcat career and future in golf or his chosen career path.

Had a couple bad holes on his last 9. Was in position to qualify. Disappointing but nice performance overall by him.

Looks like even par on the back in his second round would have gotten him in a playoff.

Squires is exempt for the US Amateur in August because he made the quarterfinals there last year. He has graduated, so I guess he might stay as an amateur to try to win that and then turn pro. Best player to come through UC in a long time.
