I will take the 1st step in the challenge for a realignment thread. if the challenge is still on.

Viewing the success of the B12 the rest of the p5 realiz ethat bigger may not always be better and then 10-11 is optimum membership . 12 is acceptable
P12 Remains at 12

"Not yet falling apart" is a low bar for success.

So Arkansas and Missouri join the Big 12 here? They'll be regretting that shortly.

The new league wouldnt be a bad league for SU if you replaced Memphis with UCF or USF.

RE: Bigger may not be Better
If the SEC kicked out Vandy, Missouri, Arkansas.
Ga & Ala would have to play each other
There goes half of the playoffberths, 2 div races,
Ratings drop, SEC would come back to earth

Everybody would play other yearly, so there is that

RE: Bigger may not be Better
You can not stay stagnant in bussiness, your competitors will run by you
ACC starting a network,ACC starts pulling away, need more inventory.
Their still more markets in NE & Fla

Pac-12 gets their network straighten & expands with Hawaii & Hous
With Haw exception games, it's like adding 3 schools

SEC & B-10 would both take NC & Vs

B-12 has to make move to keep up
That's they way live works

What success?

The 0-3 CFP record?

The zero basketball titles?

Pretty sure the OP is thinking of revenue per school, and simply going with the obvious fact that every P5 conference would increase revenue per school by losing its two least valuable members.

But as for titles: How much does it benefit a program when another program in its conference wins? Wake Forest and Boston College don't get a trophy or hang a banner when Clemson wins in football or Virginia wins in basketball, and I would be extremely surprised if Wake or BC sees an increase in ticket sales or donations as a result of conference mates winning titles.

Then he is just assuming that the TV networks are going to be willing to maintain the same level contract for far less content. History has shown that is a 50/50 proposition at best. They were willing to do so with the Big XII but they were not willing to do so with the Big East.

It also isn't taking into account the nature of the Big XII's media rights contract being split between ESPN & Fox and neither wanting to see the conference split and the possibility of all the valuable parts going over to the competition.

RE: Bigger may not be Better
Totally agree. 4 conferences with an annual football round robin.

ACC
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
Duke
North Carolina
NC State
East Carolina
South Carolina
UCF
USF

BIG EAST
Boston College
Syracuse
Rutgers
Temple
Army (FB-only)
Navy (FB-only)
Maryland
Penn State
Pittsburgh
West Virginia
Non-FB: PC, UConn, SJU, SHU, VU, GU

BIG EIGHT
Colorado
Nebraska
Iowa State
Missouri
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State

SWC
Arkansas
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Texas Christian
Southern Methodist
Baylor
Houston
Rice

There isn't much way around condensing the B1G/SEC/PAC but at least keep it regional.

Swap RU/MD/PSU/NU for ND/UC/UL/UK in B1G.
Swap CU for BYU in PAC-12.

SEC
Memphis
Vanderbilt
Tennessee
Clemson
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Florida
Florida State
Miami
Auburn
Alabama
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
LSU

8-team playoff: 7 highest ranked conference champions + 1 wild-card to encourage monster OOC scheduling (a la Georgia) as the only way to get in via at-large.
