SEC awards naming rights for championship game
ATLANTA - After a fairly short bidding process, the SEC announced today that it has offered naming rights for their annual SEC Championship game, held annually after the final week of the regular season on the first Saturday in December. The winning bid was made by Procter & Gamble, who intend to use the new deal to promote their new superabsorbent, hydrogel-based hygiene product.

"We are excited to form this new partnership with Proctor & Gamble that we are sure will become to standard for the 5 Power conferences", SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey remarked. Sankey would not comment on the value or terms of the contract but commented that it is "substantial".

As for the bid itself, Procter and Gamble CEO David Taylor said it was a "no-brainer" for them and they would spend what they needed to earn the deal. The large company has already unveiled a rough draft of the ad they intend to run during the championship game. It shows a defensive line of football players in all-white uniforms completely run past an offensive line of men in reddish-crimson football unforms and smothering a quarterback holding a football in a brick pile.

"When your period takes the field to attack, mount an all-out blitz with new TampMax Tampons" an attractive brunette with eye paint says after taking off her helmet and holding up one of the new tampons for the camera.

The new deal doesn't come without controversy. "I just don't know how the conference will live it down" said one SEC head football coach who wished to not be named. "I think we can get past the weird white cleets with red on the tips of the toes that we'll be required to wear, but how do you live down calling the most important game in the league the TampMax Southeastern Conference Championship game?" SEC athletic directors have not yet replied to emails for comment.
