RE: Dolittle bombs
When Bill Doolittle was WMU football coach, he called the Scout teams (players that ran opponents' offense and defense against our starters in practice) the "Raiders."

Doo was a Marine in World War II.

RE: Dolittle bombs
The Hollywood version from Pearl Harbor in 2001:

What made the Doolittle Raid so important was the reality slap it gave the Japanese. They thought they were isolated enough as an island nation to to be protected from any enemy. Through its history, that mind set proved true. Then the Doolittle Raid demonstrated, times have changed. Really-really pizzed them off because it exposed vulnerability. The raid was a powerful symbolic move.

Read the book "Flyboys" by James Bradley sometime. It highlights Japanese culture at that time and also explains why and how dropping the nuclear bombs (a horrific, but necessary act) actually saved millions of lives due to that culture.

Interesting times.

Thanks for posting GBL.
