James Gordon, seldom used 6’5” PF, leaving Toledo as expected.

Losing Carter is tough but I'm still happy I never have to see Kirk drive 1-on-5 with guys wide open on the wings ever again. Boals truly building from scratch as the Bobcats lose four of their top 5 scorers. Keeping my fingers crossed we can keep Ben Vander Plas and Jason Preston.

adaway leaving miami is a bit of a blow. they've lost some key guys to transfer over the past 4 or 5 years
with olajapoke now leaving Akron has had 7 players transfer out in the past 12 months
and if OU wasn't struggling enough with carter's exit, starting guard treyveon kirk is leaving
Meh, Carter to Xavier is a blow. Kirk is addition by subtraction. He was more likely "asked" to leave as opposed to transferring on his own
I don't think there's any way Kirk was asked to leave. If you're a new coach hoping to establish a program, you don't send away experienced guards. I'm guessing he was out the door the minute Saul was not re-upped. Couple possibilities... Kirk was more valuable as a 2 guard with JP running the show toward the end of the season, even without much of an outside shot, but Boals system might not be conducive to that role and I would bet Kirk was looking at a role as a backup point guard next season.

Gotta hurt to lose the MAC’s only ten syllable player.
Yea he was a once-in-a-generation type player when it comes to syllables.

Poorly researched. Nader, Marin and Stainbrook, all recent transfers to prominent conferences, had good careers post transfer.

Not picking a side here ... but story does not list ALL the players who have transferred since whenever the Lewis kid went to OSU nor does it list ALL the kids who made a bad mistake and ALL the kids who made a good one.
But if you are trying to say more MAC kids made good transfer choices than bad ones, based in part on a kid who went to DePaul ... DE-FRIGGIN-PAUL.... whew. I don't know what to tell ya.
Transfers, in I would guess 75-percent of the cases, are not good ... period.

RE: MAC Basketball Transfers
At least the Plain Dealer makes some sort of effort to cover the MAC, even though it's done kind of half a$$. Outside of Cleveland, does any of the other major media markets in the MAC footprint write stories on the MAC as a whole(Detroit, Cincy, Chicago, Indy)? It's a genuine question. I haven't seen any shared here. Wasn't sure if that was because people don't post them or if it's because the MAC gets no coverage in those markets.

It's sad that local print journalism's being destroyed at a time when it's needed most.

Saw that ... 10 years ago PD newspaper had 340 journalists ... now down to 32. WOW. Used to have a separate beat writer for every D1 program in the area ... now don't have any.
Amazing.

RE: MAC Basketball Transfers
the sports culture has changed from celebrating the story and drama of the game to the big event and the championship. we rarely talk about the kid who gradually develops from average to very good but always want to show the star recruit. players have great dunks but don't know how to execute a fast break. the destination becomes far more important than the journey.

Harris was not a surprise. He never lived up to the promise of a good run he had at Tulane his freshman year. But he’ll be a senior next year, and only appeared in 8 games this year, and avg. 3 ppg and 2 rpg.
Dueling is a mystery. Seems to have great potential and has had some big moments. He always played with a lot of energy and had really superior athleticism, but he never seemed to find the flow of the game, and would miss defensive assignments a lot despite being a strong lane defender. He’d play 10-15 min per game then he wouldn’t play at all for a couple games. I hope he finds a place where his natural talent can flourish.

Antonio Cowart Jr entered the portal from Ohio today. That brings the announced players in the portal to 4. Ohio also had one player decommit. I believe That’s Between 6 and 8 scholarships to fill, depending on Dartis returning and the other commit not leaving.

Gotta read all the way down to the third sentence, Cleveland. You and the author may disagree whether Stainbrook playing a big role on a Sweet Sixteen team equals Lewis’s success but it’s fatuous to pretend that he didn’t make a quantum leap from WMU and sustain his level of play, or that I was hard pressed to come up with him or Marin (are you trying to say NIU >DePaul, whew, don’t know what to tell ya) or Nader who plays in the NBA (NIU > Oklahoma City Thunder?). Guy didn’t do his homework.

There are exceptions to every rule ... Stainbrook, Nader stand out for sure. You are correct.
... But the baseline remains the same. Majority of guys who transfer up from the MAC do not fare very well. Majority of transfers do not fare well. Speaking for myself ... that's all I'm saying.
