Future Frozen Four Sites
Here are the future Frozen Four sites: https://www.ncaa.com/championships/iceho...uture-info
Buffalo this year and then Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Boston. Since we have such a young team, I can't help thinking we could take a run at one of these sites -- all very good locations from Kalamazoo. If not this year, I gotta believe Murray/WMU is eyeing Detroit for next year -- as are half the teams in college hockey!

Oh my.... could you imagine a Detroit frozen four with WMU in it?
That's the stuff of dreams right there.

Why isn't GR bidding on regionals anymore?

Because college hockey is only big in college hockey towns.

Alllentown keeps overbidding with Penn State. WMU used to bid with the CCHA, which is something of a problem now. Only been Van Andel once since, with Michigan bidding as the host.

Hmm, I think this is more of a coincidence than anything. It's not like in state programs folded. Having MSU be consistently mediocre sure doesn't help and for a while UM was pretty awful, too.

You do realize that most of these regional bids go to non college hockey towns?

Works out east because so many of the teams are so close. In Big 10/NCHC/WCHA territory, usually a college hockey town or VERY close to a college hockey town.
It'd be a dud in GR.

It's because these events cost a fortune for cities to host.

With all the temporary ice options today surprised Indy, Atlanta, and other dome cities don't bid. Indy is pretty close to many D1 hockey schools. Atlanta hosts several major sporting events.

Huh, didn't realize Allentown PA had more money than GR.

It was last held in GR in 2013. Previously in 2007, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1997. No reason it couldn't host again.

You don't know the industry very well (wouldn't expect you too). Montgomery County, PA is a huge player in the national sports scene. Tons of money in the Valley Forge Region. So yeah... really not surprising at all. They are right up there with Grand Rapids and other mid-range/large markets.

I stand corrected.

Grand Forks and Fargo are approximately the same distance apart as are Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, yet the Scheels center almost always seems to end up hosting the West regional every other year.

That's because North Dakota is the host team and most of the time UND makes it and sells out, given that it's half the size of their home arena. Van Andel is 2.5 times the size of Lawson and WMU doesn't sell out.

If WMU was in the NCAA tournament and playing in Grand Rapids, it would be a sellout.

Yeah, but we bid on it while Culhane was killing the program so Grand Rapids had to pray for MSU, Michigan, and/or Notre Dame getting seeded for 5-6,000 or have 3,000 for a regional final for two Minnesota schools

Quick look reveals most of the time GR hosted, UM or MSU played in it. Now with MSU garbage and UM unpredictable, would be risky for GR to bid.

I could see Atlanta bidding on the Frozen Four, not a regional site tho.
