Beat of luck to him. Hopefully he finds a spot to play.

Wasn't Noah Ellison one of our higher regarded recruits?

He was a 3 star 6'2" 200 pounder.
I am not sure what his story is.
He Redshirted in 2016.
He played in 9 games in 2017 and caught six passes for 55 yards.
In 2018 he played sparingly in seven games and had only two catches for 12 yards.
I suspect he transferred so as to get a chance to play somewhere. It doesn't look like he was going to play much at ODU.

Yes. He had an offer from Purdue if Im not mistaken. Sometimes these guys don't work out. We could use some good receivers next season, so one would think the opportunity would be there to excel in the coming year if he stuck around.

Maybe it wasn’t his choice to leave

Possible. My reading comprehension isn't the greatest but his twitter reads... "2018...ups and downs...whichever school offers me the opportunity to play football again." Maybe he wasn't retained but it wouldn't make sense to leave a program that is going to need WRs to step up next season.

I don't know of this instance, but there are some scholarships that have been pulled.
Remember there are also a couple freshman that redshirted that the coaches really like at WR.

And they are listed at 6'5", 6'4", and 6'3".

RE: Transfers
I wish him the best. We didn’t see him much because he didn’t have really good ball skills. I don’t believe in the star rating system. He maybe rated three stars, but when under pressure, he can’t catch. I’ve seen him drop a lot balls thrown to him. Wagner is probably a better fit for him.

It goes back to how poorly the kids at our level are graded. (not to mention the difficulty in grading overall)
Its difficult to go back and look through every team, but you can see who graded the highest historically for every team and it's a bunch of kids that I've never heard of.
The grading criteria appears to be size and if you played football in Florida or Texas.

As I keep saying, take recruiting rankings with a grain of salt. Our best players have been either unrated, walk-ons or 2 stars. When he first committed, Ximines was a 2-star. Raised later to a marginal 3.

I agree the ratings may not be exactly on point but our on field performance is on par with our recruiting rankings. Until that changes you can’t say the rating system is that flawed. I personally look at the overall class ranking within C-USA and not so much each recruits rating

Alabama wins national championships with 4 and 5 star recruits. Coincidence?

RE: Transfers
When you consistently fall in the bottom half of the conference in recruiting rankings, you can be fairly confident you won't compete for a Conference Championships and likely will be at home for the Bowl Season. Until we see top 5 recruiting classes (more 3*s than 2*s) that is something we should factor into our season expectations. Of course there will be anomalies, but our recruiting performance is in direct correlation with our infield performance. That is being a realist and not being negative.

Which is also why you have to look at who else was recruiting the person. Oshane turned down scholarships to ECU, App State and Cincinnati to come to ODU. 3 other good programs. For too many of our recruits the last few years, we have been the only FBS offer. We need to be beating out the ECUs, App Sts, Marshalls of the world much more frequently if we want to win championships.
