Great idea and much better than NIU's poor attempt at that. At NIU they announce that people should get up and make noise for a T-shirt, and then they have ROTC or whomever stop in front of one section and throw a couple t-shirts, and then leave, which IMO is worse than not doing it at all.
They also need to revive the real red-black chant - when they put it on the video screens nobody knows when to yell Red or Black, so nobody does it.
Also, there was something about their cheerleaders, the routines seemed better somehow than what I'm used to - better synchronized than the Silverettes I think - though some of it was just better music.
Am I the only one that misses Thundersticks?
Starting to see them again on TV...I forget where. More of an Eastside thing for whatever students find their way into the stadium. Maybe best for November mid-week games. Banging thundersticks keeps you warm.
(^^^And DogFan in 3....2...1.... )
I miss them too.

And against EMU it was 13 points at the end of regulation. In OT you don't have to march down the field to score. I suspect Ball State's defense is a little worse than EMU's and probably CMU's, notwithstanding their close game against TSISB.
Total Yards/Game
Iowa: 211
Utah: 228
CNU: 284
FSU: 221
EMU: 356 (say about 300 yards in regulation)
Ball St.: 370
In terms of total yards per game we are going in the right direction. Considering that Ohio gives up 509 yards/game I am hoping we crack 400 yards on Saturday.
I guess I was questioning whether the offense had gotten better or the defenses we were playing against were worse.

I added the total defense rank of each team. Of course, the rankings depend on the teams each played. Our best total yards per game are in the last 2 games against the weakest defenses we have played so far. So maybe the O has improved some (optimistic) v. we have played weaker defenses (pessimistic); maybe a bit of both?
Total Yards/Game
Iowa: 211 # 4
Utah: 228 #10
CNU: 284 #42
FSU: 221 #61
EMU: 356 (say about 300 yards in regulation) #91
Ball St.: 370 #86
For the remainder of our schedule here is the total defense rank:
Ohio # 124
BYU # 53
Akron #51
Toledo # 111
WMU # 58
Miami (OH) # 55
We are currently ranked 48. So, 2 bad defenses (Ohio and Toledo) and the remainder good defenses, at least based solely on stats. Of course, stats are not everything, and are very dependent on the other teams opponents.

RE: Ball State Drive Chart
Thanks. This does tell a story. It would be nice for the offense to explode for homecoming. Surprised to see so many good MAC defenses still on the schedule.
Akron's defense just made huge play after huge play vs Northwestern. They were scary at least for that game.
What happened to Ohio's D? I know they lost a couple to graduation but didn't expect to see them at the bottom of the list.

You're welcome. From what I've read their DBs are giving up a lot of big plays, and that is born out by them giving up 364 yards/game passing, dead last in FBS. So their problem is the DBs (what their fans say) and I perhaps a lack of pass rush. I am hoping our O has a big game, but passing (especially down field) is hardly our strength.
