RE: What Tulane Fans Are Saying
If it’s the 8-5 bowl team they’re worried about, watch the bowl game, last weeks game, game at Charlotte and you’d never suspect we’d won 8 games last season. if there is no atmosphere, then we are going to have a rough day. Fans gotta be involved on defense from the start. Given a noon start time and the uncertainty of which way the hurricane is going to go, I’d imagine the crowd won’t be all that great. I’ve been wrong on the crowd already this season, but that performance in Conway did us no favors.
As far as Tulane goes, they got our spot in the aac. Them, ECU, and Tulsa had no business getting the invite. Had we been allowed to build our OCS, we’d been taken ahead of them.
Tulane, everybody there, should feel they’re above us. Regardless of where they stand head to head against us in terms of athletics. They’re in the better conference and they’ve taken guys out of our backyard. we’d have the same mentality if we were in their shoes. same thing just happened vs CCU.

RE: What Tulane Fans Are Saying
Also Willie fritz is a good ball coach and I think he’s got the assistants who should be coaching college ball. I feel like our staff is too buddy buddy and there’s no accountability. There’s many guys on our staff that likely wouldn’t get picked up if we let them go, the experience is not there. Just a staff of Clark’s BFFs at the moment. There’s a lot to prove, and we probably play in the 2nd or 3rd weakest conference in the FBS. Got the oldest team in FBS, better get some results out of em or you’re gong to lose the fans and recruits.
Sorry, just being straight forward in how I feel at the moment. Whether it’s right or wrong.

Man, I really wish people would quit bringing this game up. Now I am going to wake up in cold sweats again. That vaunted Wayne Bolt/Jabba the Hut defense really did a number, didn't it? DHack and Roddy were unstoppable. It was 782 degrees, and our guys didn't have a locker room. That little stadium was garbage, and I felt no sorrow for it when I saw footage after Katrina when it was under water...

Lord, why did you have to bring up that game??? That was a horrible memory for us,,, both defenses were so tired that all you had to do was hand someone the ball and they would run for a TD it seemed toward the end. We were standing in line at the NOLA airport trying to make our flight back home that afternoon and the game was still going on. Just before we boarded, the final score was announced on the radio we were listening to,,, total DOWNER!

The only sadder moment than seeing Frenchie's face drop as he took the radio earpiece from his ear in disgust when they scored that last touchdown was seeing the look of confusion on Wayne Bolt's face at halftime.
I was standing right behind the defensive coaches at halftime. The dude waddled into the curtained off area that we were using as a locker room a full 3 minutes after the other "box" coaches got there. Looked confusedly at his jumbled mess of notes from the first half for about 30 seconds, tossed them on the ground and looked up with a face that just screamed helpless confusion. There was nothing he knew to do that was going to slow down Tulane in the second half, and he knew it.

That game is only a memory for fans. The players can only see it as a history lesson in overconfidence. The coaches are different, the players are different and I hope the results are different. The next winning streak can begin Saturday.

Ask some people and they will tell you that we would have been taken anyway... that a call was made to UAB's athletic director by the AAC, and that the athletic director was instructed not to return that call. Sounds crazy - but not if a person or persons above the AD had already decided the football team was going away.

We should have a great crowd. Weather looks great with not a cloud in sight. Tulane is bringing their band and should bring maybe 4-5k. Expecting 27-30k total. If anyone has tickets that they don’t need I can put 3 more butts in seats. Already helping bring 8-9 people. Go blazers!

I’d be satisfied with that number. We are picking up a couple more tickets tomorrow as well.

I've been to Tulane games in New Orleans that didnt have 5k Tulane fans there. So I'll need to see that to believe it.

I will haunt me in perpetuity. THAT was the year and that was the game that put us on the downslope to mediocrity.
UAB was ranked #25 in the BCS going into that game. Win it and we stay there - climb maybe. UAB never sniffed that sort of attention before - and did not afterwards until it was attention for the December 2014 travesty.

and the freaking uab band was playing very loudly when you were on offense in the red zone ...
also the band was very close to UAB offense
hackey was not able to call the play because of the uab band noise
cajun try to fix the situation but he got in trouble

Fact. You nailed it. As I recall, it was the very next game after we beat TCU at home, nationally televised. Ranked in the top 25, with momentum. That was our high-water mark, kinda like Gen. Lee's army at Gettysburg. It didn't end there, but it was the beginning of it. Went 7-4, made a bowl game, but after that it would be a decade before we went .500 again. I believe if we had won that game, things might've happened differently.

The trend is
UAB wins at home
UAB loses away
Until the pattern is broken, we beat Tulane tomorrow.
