That is just dumb in a single piston engine. No matter the maintenance history. Just not the smartest thing ever

That and he's flying 1500+ miles over the ocean in a plane with a 1000 mi range. He HAS to have external wing tanks or something.

He’s not flying, he’s falling with style?

Usually they take all the seats out and put some tanks in the middle.

He is now scheduled to take off from St. Johns Intl, Newfoundland this morning. By the way, Jack is correct on seats removed and temporary tanks added in their place. This is done much more often than most might thing in order to ferry single engine aircraft to new owners overseas.

Well, he's airborne with roughly seven hours to go.

UPDATE: He's two hours into his flight and on track for he Azores.

UPDATE: He's one third of the way there and still on track. Dollars to doughnuts he's pretty lonely feeling right now.

Just so people know, this isn't about a Guiness record; it is about bringing attention and support for a fantastic organization. Mason Andrews (age 18) has been a counselor for 3 years at Medcamps in Louisiana. Here is Mason's brief story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6TPl5EjDWY

Gotcha. Strip it down and make it a flying gas can.

UPDATE: Over half way there and estimated to still be on track. I would think he should be picked up on Azores radar before too much longer.

Two hours to go and his position is no longer listed as estimated. My take on that is that Azores radar has him in contact or that at least an Azores facility has radio contact. Getting close to finishing a monumental leg of his journey.

Not sure, but earlier he was quoted as being excited to be landing in Paris, so my guess is the next leg is Azores to Paris.

If me I’d fly to Madrid then Paris. But he might want to fly as far as possible every day.

You make a great point, Jack. Pushing to Paris is another tough, long leg, actually farther than I realized. It will be interesting to see what he does. I made a number of ocean crossings in the F-4, including four non-stop 11/12 hour flights between New Mexico and Germany, and it's physically tough being in the seat that long -- not able to stand up and stretch.

I wonder if he's planning on avoiding the Middle East and the "...istans."

I'd take the northern route with a MAGA sticker on the plane. Might get a fighter jet escort.
