I prefer the lowered expectations, which we can exceed, instead of unrealistic ones that could turn a good season into a disappointment.

And considering our last showing on the field in Nassau against a good opponent, we have some things to prove that we are for real.

20-1 sounds about right. (and I'll take some of that)

We should pool our money and place a bet.

I don't think "lowered" expectations are an issue considering where many others have picked UAB(near top of conference). Although, I could see this particular evaluation being used for motivation...

That was exactly my point. I know we are excited to get the recognition that comes with being picked higher, but I want to make sure our guys stay hungry and motivated. It is also helpful not to feed our critics, if we were to finish 8-4 and all we hear is how we didn't live up to expectations. We couldn't have asked for a better situation last year than being picked #130. Obviously, I don't want us to be thought of as a bottom-dweller any longer, but at this point in our reborn program I'd rather exceed lower expectations than fail to meet higher ones.

8-4 is a great season, and in no way does it show that the team was slipping. I think them being a perennial 8-4 team with a few championships mixed in would be awesome. UAB will have the benefit (drawback?) of being able to claim "well they just came back X years ago" for at least 2 or 3 more seasons.

Regardless of what outsiders might predict, I don't think our staff will let the team "get too full of itself" as fall practice gets underway. The 2017 record of 8-4 got the attention of opponents in C-USA and they will be less likely to overlook the UAB Blazers in 2018. I expect they will be told in some form that they will have to play twice as good to match that 2017 record.

Our coach is realistic but sets our goals high. He wants high expectations.

I like the way he thinks. This is not Callaway, Brown or MgGoof, its National Coach of The Year Bill Clark.

You want to tell me that Clark didn't rejoice in the fact that we were picked #130 last year? He knew better, and the players certainly expected more, and they exceeded those outside expectations. Internally, I think they probably expected a winning season at the very least. Either way, it's always nice to be able to sneak up on people, and to outperform what is expected of you.

Had we been picked in the top 70, projected to have a winning season and go to a bowl game, Clark would never have been named coach of the year. The very fact that we exceeded those low expectations, for a first-year-back program, is why we were the feel good story of college football last year.

I would always expect a coach to have high standards and high expectations, but it's not whether you talk the talk, it's whether you walk the walk.

I didn't say he didn't rejoice in that.

HCBC has HIGH expectations. Much higher than our own fans. He is breaking his team down yelling CUSA Champions. That is their goal.

Ask him.

Planning on putting $50 down on this next weekend! That should give me $1,000 to have a great bowl game experience.
