Hard to tell what is tongue-in-cheek, and what is not. Is your dump comment somehow related to the flooding damage from Harvey? I would contest this comment on any day, but it is especially not true 10 months removed from Harvey. The money being spent to restore the Bellaire/Meyerland area is amazing.

There are some nice areas of Houston; River Oaks, the Woodlands, and such. Bellaire/Meyerland looks good with the rebuilding since the floods. But many places in and around Houston just don't look as nice as they did when I was growing up there. A stranger passing through Houston will not be impressed with what they see driving through on I-45. Overall, Houston just doesn't seem to be aging well.

Generally, citiea don't look nice from the interstate. Poor people are usually clustered by highways.

Brisket is another discussion.

No. No. No.

Brisket is the original BBQ. My family was raising cattle and smoking brisket in Texas by 1748. That's before the United States was even a country.

I'll tell you what we didn't raise... pigs. A pig's a filthy animal. 05-nono05-nono

clt says brisket is brisket and is delicious when properly prepared. clt had Texas brisket at the San antionio airport Applebee’s, so I know what is proper Texas brisket.

BBQ is chopped or pulled pork with vinegar sauce, slaw, baked beans, and a bun.

If you are really basing your opinion on Applebee's roast with BBQ sauce, then you have never had good brisket.

BBQ is slow smoked brisket with grilled corn, ranch house beans, and Texas toast.

At least we can agree on Megan Draper gifs.

I am not listening to anybody who bases their opinions off the offerings of a chain restaurant or airport food.

Joe, the area in Houston around Rice is very nice. I know of no comparable areas in Denton.

Not that seriously. But when somebody says the sky is plaid, I feel compelled to differ.

i think its the opposite...houston is getting gentrified at an abnormally fast rate...everything looks nicer in houston now..

the running joke 15 years ago was that you dont want to go to university of houston games because you might get stabbed or robbed, because you could visible see the 3rd ward for the campus...anyone who has been there in the lat 7/ years cant even make that joke anymore because everything has been so drastically gentrified

The area around Rice is very nice, in fact it is my favorite part of Houston. I really enjoy attending our games at Rice Stadium. But, we need to schedule them at night. It is way too hot for noon or 3 pm kickoffs.

You must not be very old. In the 1970's oil was booming and Skyscrapers were shooting up all over downtown. Businesses and structures were popping up everywhere. The Astrodome was out in a big empty pasture, and economic growth grew around it. Houston was growing and most of it looked nice and new. Today, many paces in Houston look old, run down, and dirty.

In my lifetime, the area around U of H has always been unattractive. And, I think it still is.

No argument there.

When I was a student, all the kickoffs before November were at 8:00 PM.

As they should be. Its almost a health hazard to be sitting out there in the sun at noon in September. 04-cheers
