Thats the problem with athletic number comparisons, big capital projects substantially sway the numbers. Non profit accounting includes all revenues and expenses and does not differentiate between operating and capital results.

Negative ghost rider! The numbers from USA Today are derived from NCAA reporting which has its own Agreed Upon Procedures and reporting guidelines. There will be differences in interpretation and record keeping of course so I agree it’s not apples to apples. Some have incentive to make there athletic spending seem smaller and some larger and the numbers can be manipulated for sure but it should represent only operating income and expenses. Here are the guidelines for what to include in revenue and expense categories. USA Today takes the statements and further groups the into more general categories.
