Any Blazers fans in the know care to share some insight on all the noise coming out of Birmingham?

RE: UAB Athletics
I’m not in the area, so take this with a grain of salt. It seems that our AD has released some folks from the Admin Office, citing finances, which is weird to me, since funding seems to be at an all-time high. One of those folks that was let go was our former softball coach, who was one of the more vocal folks in the Athletic Offices when it came to supporting Blazer athletics in our darkest hour. She had only been in her new role for a year, if that, before being let go. That’s all I really know. I’ve yet to dive too deep into the Blazertalk threads that are talking about it.

RE: UAB Athletics
It just all seems kind of odd now that UAB is finally on firm footing with the announcement of the stadium.

RE: UAB Athletics
Two of the three biggest UAB haters on the Board of Trustees are still there. Paul Bryant, Jr. is not, but all he has to do is express his desires to have flunkies push for them.
They can't go after Bill Clark and football openly... but they can be petty and difficult and make him have to struggle to get the accommodations most head football coaches get simply by asking. Basically, they are trying to wear him down, to frustrate him to the point that he takes a job elsewhere so he does not have to deal with their foot dragging.
For instance, our home opener. Last year we played Alabama St., who can be relied upon to have good traveling fan attendance. The 48k at that game put our attendance at the top of the conference. This season, our idiot AD (who few believe has any true loyalty to anyone other than Ray Watts) scheduled Savannah State - on a Thursday night. Damn few of their fans will be there, and many of ours who come from out of town and/or have kids in school won't make it either. It's not an attractive match up, it wasn't done for TV (who wants to see that game?), you have to take a half day off work to tailgate...
Horrible scheduling. You think Bill Clark is happy with that?
That sort of thing.
They pass this off as a cost cutting measure, and indeed they cut people who have been with the university a long time. That said, they also dumped very loyal, long service, committed Green and Gold UAB people.
I'd bet my back teeth that this was a top down decision, the BoT to Watts to AD Ingram. They don't want us on a firm foundation, building a solid and successful program. They don't want their fingerprints on what happened, but there is still deliberate interference going on.

RE: UAB Athletics
What is the story behind the story? We all know about the 'bama influence/hate/paranoia ---but is that really all there is or does UAB athletics have other serious problems? I watched the video on @CUSAbbs twitter on local ABC 33/40.Is there more behind latest action than the UAB hate on the state board?

It's not paranoia in the sense that they're afraid UAB is going to start beating Bama on the field or for recruits anytime soon. They just have a will to dominate and monopolize everything more than I've seen with anyone else. Like I said, it's not that they're afraid of UAB in the near time they just think every single dollar donated to UAB is a waste and instead should have been sent to Tuscaloosa. The fact that Bama is already swimming in cash is irrelevant because they think all possible dollars that exist should be sent to Tuscaloosa.
The only parts of UAB they truly care about are the hospital, med school, and research enterprise because they're a cash cow.

And if they controlled other universities in AL like they do UAB/UAH, then you'd not see anything other than UAT in the state - they need to go extinct & be left in the past that they love to live in.
