Toledo usually has 6 home games. This year 7, because the U Miami game was moved to 2018 so the Canes could play @FAU in 2015. Rockets usually schedule an FCS opponent for a home opener. As a fan, I would just as soon see a big name money road game in its place if it helps maintain/grow the program.
I think NIU has a pretty strong home schedule with no really bad teams coming to DeKalb- Utah(PAC 12), CMU, Ohio U, Toledo, Miami U.

Isn’t Toledo breaking in a new QB this year?

As a matter of fact, they are. We'll be waiting. 05-mafia

Why is that? Almost every major publication has NIU finishing #1 or #2 in the MAC this upcoming season. NIU is returning the majority of a team that was a few plays away from having a 10-2 season. If anything, they should be significantly improved overall for this season. The only downfall is the tough schedule but if they can somehow escape winning 1 or 2 of those, they should easily win 8-9 games this year.

We're always a few plays away from having a better record, so are many other teams. We got destroyed in the bowl game by a 6-6 Duke team. It wasn't even a competitive game. We are more likely to go 0-4 in non-conference than go 2-2. We won't get through the MAC schedule undefeated so we are likely looking at 9 wins as the ceiling and 5 wins as the bottom. Our offense needs to be dramatically better at putting points on the board. Replicating the success we had on defense last year is not going to be easy either.

Trying to get there. Cincinnati with the Top 2018 G5 signing class was barely in the Top 50 @#47. G5 is still G5. MAC West teams had 3 of the 4 best 2018 recruiting classes in the Conference.

For the Rockets sake there won’t be a qb battle dragging on into the season. Though Childers had 8 or so starts, he didn’t have all that preseason practice time with the ones. So while game action is the most crucial thing for an development, I’d put practice reps with the first team right behind it. This year is much better for NIU having that clear #1.

I’m not sure what Toledo’s situation is, but I do know you don’t want one guy starting one week, then the other guy the next. That’s unavoidable sometimes but tough to go through.

I thought Childers did a very good job for coming in as the #3 QB. Should be very very solid this season.

He did about as well as one could expect from a true freshman who is not necessarily a great athlete or has a big arm. But he does have poise. Sort of a Zach Terrell type who will have to play smart and be accurate(which was an issue last season).

It is great that USA Today rates the Huskies so high. That means they will get to start the Iowa game being spotted a 7 point lead and kick off from the 50. Actually it means nothing more than an opinion.

After the Iowa game, win or lose, no one will remember or care where the Huskies ranked in any preseason poll.

Unless Iowa loses and their fans tell everybody that NIU was ranked high by Myerberg.

Childers was a redshirt freshman, not true freshman. The true freshman QB at WMU outplayed Childers and he had less starts than Childers when we played them. Generally, you would think a QB would get better over the course of the season but Childers got worse. Last 3 games were terrible.

Easy to not throw INTs when 90% of your long passes are overthrown and the rest of your passes are simple laterals.

So overall they both were bad, although one was an actual true freshman. I watched all the NIU games and Childers led a pretty inefficient offense and did not seem to get better with more experience. I hope a switch flips for him this year, he will be playing much tougher competition this season.

Childers was #78 in Passing Efficiency, Roback #77 and Josh Allen #72.
Also, ahead of Roback in "Points Responsible For". Rouke led the MAC.

Harnish made the big leap between his Jr year. His freshman stats are comparable to Childers. Harnish had better yards/att, Childers had better(by far) TD/INT.

Many posters on this board are schizophrenic...I remember after the 2012 Iowa game many wanted Lynch benched and more than a few suggested DD coached to lose the game. 01-wingedeagle
