What exactly do you think the suspension entailed --- time off from school which he could fill by finding and paying for a passing camp near a lake so he could swim or canoe to build arm muscles?

I brought up the passing camp in jest, maybe it just wasn't funny. I was insulting Childer`s rag arm.

Seems a little concerning to me if the other QBs aren't even able to provide competition for Childers. It's not like he lit the place up last year.

Unless Graham gets his arm/shoulder back, its Childers or bust I'm afraid. Betcha Hall ends up at WR before all is said and done.

Remember the good 'ol days..Harnish..Lynch..heck, even Hare. 03-cloud9

I agree. We are on very thin ice if Childers gets injured. Thompson and Hall may turn out to be very good, but we'll never know until they're thrown into action. And we have all seen that you don't win the MACC without a stud QB.

Some guys don’t look good in practice than light it up in the game. Hopefully that’s the case with our back ups if we’re forced to use them.

And I wouldn't be surprised if one of the backups is actually the best QB.

With Rod, you can almost guarantee that.

In the latest practice video, Hall has about a 50 yard completion and he seems to have moved his arm rotation up a bit.

I saw this....he whipped that 50 yards with little effort. It was pretty impressive.

Before this season is over, I say Tommy Feidler returns and starts a few games.

Agree, of all our QBs, with the exception of Lynch, Maddie had the complete package of skills to run this offense to its highest potential. Like Lynch, it was his running ability that separated him from the rest. If you look at passing stats, Childers is was adequate (impressive protecting the ball), but he needs to be a far more effective running the ball given some of his passing limitations. The stats (passing only) are as follows. The stats are limited to real games participated (if Childers came in to a game to simply run on a short yardage situation that would not count in his per game stats)

Childers 9 games 152-265 57.3%. 1674 Yards (186 per game) 16 TD 5 INT
Maddie 6 games (2016) 105-175 60% 1213 Yards (202 per game) 8 TD 4 INT
Santa 4 games (‘16-‘17) 75-120 62.5% 970 Yards (242 per game) 8 TD 6 INT

Childers may have been playing hurt for a portion of last season impacting his running ability. If he can improve his running game, and completes a higher % of his deep passes, he can be really good.

As much as I wanted maddie starting last season(10 wins), we'd be that much further back at the position today.

Without a doubt a good running QB is essential in this offense. Hare became a better passer in year 2 but ran far less(250yds). The team was more successful in his first year when he ran for 900 yards. Unless Childers was nursing an injury I doubt he improves at running. That's one of the more innate skills. And he didn't show much natural ability. So I'm counting on a big jump in his passing game to improve the offense.

I'll be disappointed if we don't see Hall come in on occasion to run the wildcat. While any defense shouldn't take long to key on it, his athleticism might be enough to create some excitement.

We'll probably see him come in to run it as a 3rd and 22 play. I'm sure it will be wildly successful.

Maybe Hall will be used like lynch was with garnish. The first year he had very long runs

Option 2 in that situation would be the forever popular sideline pass for a gain of 4 yrds. 03-banghead

Yes!! And Option 3 would be a straight run up the middle for a hard-fought 2 yards.

We have now revealed our third down offense.
