RE: 2018-19 OOC schedules
Lots of good looking games for the WAC. I hope we can all make some noise this year. There are certainly plenty of opportunities.

RE: 2018-19 OOC schedules
CBU released their schedule today. They have a few non-D1 home games, which is expected. They also open up WAC play hosting NMSU and UTRGV

CBU Schedule

There are a lot of teams on that schedule I am not familiar with. Do they get to add more DII’s than normal since they are transitioning?

CBU only has three DII opponents... San Diego Christian, La Verne, and Caltech. the other 27 games are against D1 opponents.

That is not unusual in the first season at D1. GCU played three non-conference games at home their first season against Western New Mexico, San Diego Christian and Vanguard. They played zero non-conference games against D1 schools in that first season at D1. CBU has three D1 schools on their non-conference home schedule. So CBU has a good non-conference schedule for their first season.

Even without looking it up, I can guarantee that GCU played more than "zero" OOC games against D1 opponents during the initial transition year. Mostly for that fact that it would be impossible for DI school to only schedule DII opponents. Also if my memory serves me well, we played Kentucky and Indiana on the road and Buffalo, New Mexico and Majerle's aluma mater Central Michigan at home. I remember because it was a great schedule. After that first year our home schedule slowly got worse since no one would agree to play us at home.

I could be wrong, but that sounds like OOC from year 2. Year 1 was a little dialed back.

RE: 2018-19 OOC schedules
I think pretty much every transitioning team has to play a handful of non d1 games just to fill a home schedule for a few years. I remember UVU had like three or four of them not too long ago.

Which makes me wonder- it seems like all of the SoCal teams apart from sc, UCLA and SDSU barely have any home OOC games. Can’t they all just schedule each other every year for some more home games or do they really prefer all of the money games on the road to more home games?

RE: 2018-19 OOC schedules
I guess the question I am really asking is, does a transitioning team get to schedule more non-D1 teams than is allowed by the NCAA?

Is there a limit? I didn't think there was

It looks like reclassifying institutions have to comply with D1 scheduling requirements (e.g. no more than 4 games against non-D1 opponents, etc.) beginning the second year of transition. That is the same timeframe (Season 2) when they will count as a D1 opponent for the rest of us, I think.

I read this document a little further. It looks like Cal Baptist could be counted in the D1 RPI during year 1 if they build a schedule that meets D1 requirements, and notify the applicable sports committee that it will be meeting the requirements, prior to season start.

RE: 2018-19 OOC schedules
I expect that the Cal Baptist team that plays NMSU at home the first conference game and the one that plays their last one in Las Cruces will be quite a bit different. Experience will help out, but that is a tough way to start the conference schedule.

Yeah, I checked and you are right. This was year two of the transition.

RE: 2018-19 OOC schedules
The schedule isn't clear who the home team is in the CBU-UCR game. But great to see them playing already in a rivalry. Looks like CBU is the lone WAC school without a travel partner as well

Cal Baptist vs UC Riverside
NMSU vs New Mexico, UTEP
UTRGV vs TAMU-CC
Seattle U vs Washington, Eastern Washington

Love seeing WAC schools with OOC rivalries

If I understand they are going to do some triangle thing between Bake GCU CBU and I think UCR is at CBU.
