The color on the 2013 turf definitely popped, especially when you saw it in person. I liked the old yard markers that were red with white trim (as seen in the 2007 video above). That yard marker to me is synonymous with UC football at its height.

To show the field - 2015 opener of renovated Nippert highlights (seems like it has been many years since UC dominated a game like this)

Even better -

Love this celebration thread--for many Bearcat football loyalists these are special memories. For those of us who never thought we'd even see the words "Cincinnati" and "Orange Bowl" in the same sentence it was heady stuff. I remember standing with my son watching those oranges hit the field at Nippert after the conference clinching win. I told him to take it all in--live in the moment. It exceeded by wildest expectations.

Fickell's recruiting continues to amaze me. It's a big rebuild but I can't wait to get back in Nippert this fall.

So true. As someone who grew up going to nearly every UC home game with my father, this was truly special. As a young kid I used to sell the virtues of UC football to so many UC basketball friends of mine who decided they were Buckeye fans in football (or ND or Michigan). My earliest UC football memories were yelling "Give it to Small" with some of the fans around me. My father passed away in 2002 when I was a junior in high school, but many of my greatest memories with him were coming down to Nippert in the fall. We went to so many games over the years, even convinced a couple OSU fan transplants to join us (my friend and his father) with tickets for several years. My friend has become a full UC football convert and has been my ticket partner and UC football travel companion for his adult life. The jump for those few years was like something out of dream. It happened so quickly and really is the pinnacle of my time as a sports fan. To go from where UC football was when I was growing up to that 2006-2012 stretch was just remarkable (particularly that 2007-2009 stretch).

RE: Cincinnati Bearcats Football: The Rise
I've been a UC football fan since the days of Greg Cook and Jim O'Brien. I'll never forget the feeling that came over me standing in the parking lot at the Orange Bowl and watch the Bearcat team buses pull into the stadium escorted by police and sirens. A scene I didn't ever expect to see or feel.

Walking up the corkscrew entrances into the Orange Bowl Stadium. Two VPI guys were behind me talking about how the UC program hadn't existed very long. I was so happy to inform them that we were one of the oldest football programs in the country and played in the 4/5 oldest venue in college football. Created many years before theirs!
