Relax, it was a joke

I'm not blaming this scenario on Carey, I am blaming Carey for not having a deep QB position with options. It has been a glaring need the last two seasons and has done nothing really to change that. Kinda like the bears needing WR and Pace goes out and signs two, where as Carey has done nothing IMO to adding depth.

NIU did get commits from Mitchell and Wright. Probably a legit JUCO or Grad Transfer should have been brought in just to improve depth.

Can't rely on incoming frosh for the most important position. He needs to still go after a JUCO / Grad transfer now.

**** that. Biggest programs play freshman. You guys are too old fashioned and Carey conservative..

I see this potential no Childers thing as a positive!

Carey conservative? 4th and 18. (yeah, I know, that hurts to remember that play). I say Carey plays the guys that can be good consistently.

Anyways you could be an Ohio supporter that has 0 pass offense but plays D. That is 1 conservative program.

Joe burrows sucks. Rather play our young guys than a 1 yr transfer. Haskins is starting at Ohio State. Burrows might as well transfer now..

What has happened to Huskie football? Jeez - I used to look forward to it so much & now it is more apprehension than happiness. *sigh*

He was suspended from team activities.

Probably asked Carey his thought process on the 4th & 18 fake punt call.

Seriously? I thought that HuskiePride's post was damn funny.
And that idiotic play call....Carey deserves to never hear the end of it.

The issue is that NIU hasn't had anyone take ownership at QB because of injury, transfer, and off-field actions. While playing six different guy behind center, NIU is still 21-18 (17-7) the past three seasons. That's remarkable considering the circumstances, and I would say that shows 'depth'.

Look at Ball State last year after losing Riley Neal (0-9). Look at Western Michigan after losing Wassink (1-3). Heck, look at the entire season Florida State had after losing Deondre Francois. Teams are not going to have high-caliber QB's throughout their depth chart (Nick Saban and Alabama are a unicorn). I'm sure NIU's struggle at QB has been created from a combination of factors, but they really just haven't caught a break. We'll see what happens this year and what kind of drive/motivation the players in the QB room have.

More like a golden calf. How hard is it to convince a highly ranked HS QB to choose Alabama?

Can someone spill the beans on what Childers did? Did he get kicked out of school? Obviously, he didn’t get arrested.

Just talked to a couple guys after practice ! Looks like Childers in not only back on the squad but looks to be a clear QB1 He had not been allowed to do anything with the team all winter but things seem to have been resolved and he will be your QB1 with Ryan (elbow willing )
the 2 and Hall 3. At least going into spring

Valid argument, but it's not that simple. To expect an 18 year old to adopt a new system, become a leader, and adapt to the speed of DI football in three months is a tall older, and can only be done well by the games elite. This argument is about more than just talent and athleticism.

I know we all have our doubts on a lot with regards to the QB position, but to me this is great news. Keep building on what we already have invested playing Childers last year, see if he can develope further. Happy he is back, happy for him.

That's good, I do hope that he has somehow found a way to improve in the passing game. If not I hope that an alternative emerges.

Although I have been unimpressed with his play, I am glad that he worked through whatever the issue(s) might have been.

True and not the norm but it happens more or more than years ago. HS offenses have evolved and lessened the learning curve.

My hope is that he’s gotten much better and creates major separation from the other QB’s or that Rodney Hall is too much of a playmaker to keep off the field.... We need a spark on that offense badly.....
