Apparently that's what they think they're doing with the November weeknight games.

Home games against Army, Central, Toledo and NIU will help because those fan bases travel pretty well. Opposing fans at the game suck - but butts in the seats are butts in the seats.

Athletes though have a deeper sense of belonging than our typical student who commutes to school. That's another reason why cutting sports is short sighted. You're cutting off people who would most likely be involved as alumni.

12,000 seems about right for a successful season. More if we became consistently good.
This is true. Honestly, friends from CMU have a ton of pride in their school. It might have to do with the fact that CMU has a really fun campus and once you are there, it is a long drive back to mom and dad's. People learn to live, cope and have fun away from home and everyone I know just loved their experience in Mt. Pleasant. Not having an internationally known juggernaut university 7 miles away helps too. No school can really thrive in the shadow of U-M.

To finish my thought, after years of losing and the fact that U-M is a way of life in all of Michigan, especially SE Michigan, the best EMU can hope for is 7,000-10,000 max for home games. That doesn't sound like much but that's about double from years past. It starts with the students, they haven't been showing up since the late 80's--back when EMU students had the most pride in their football team.

Yeah, but each will bring say 2 -3K, tops. The other 8 - 10K will be our fans.

Dear steve,
I have been to the home games that were mentioned by dansplaining, none of them had more than a few hundred fans on the visitors side of the field. That doesn't mean that if we are competitive, there may be more, but two thousand would be exceptional for visitors.

Perfect world scenario...let's say EMU is 6-0 heading into the home game with Toledo. With good weather, attendance would be 20k. Even 5-1 might do that.

That's seemingly true, although I don't know if some sit on the west stands.

The past 2 homecoming games have had crowds around 20k (especially Toledo in 2016). With sutained success (like a MAC championship and bowl win) we can stay around that level.

I can indeed confirm that visiting fans often sit near my season ticketed seats, especially if it is a Toledo, WMU or CMU game. I made mention of it on the football survey and suggested that they try to correct the practice.

I'm not surprised. Everything at Rynearson is essentially geared toward the west stands.

I assume some visitors sit say between the 20 and 30 yard lines at the south end. on the west stands.

The ONLY reason I could see for sitting on the east side stands is to sit at the north end and have a better view of the scoreboard/video.

Steve my seats are on the 50 yard line. I think a WMU supporter merely goes to the ticket window and is assigned the seats near me, which detracts from their experience and mine as well. If I were a visiting fan I would prefer to be behind my team's bench and the stands over there are indeed newer as well. Of course the parking on the east side is paltry.
