RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Seems like he can play. So we're one over on scholarship count, I guess someone is paying their way or we have a defection we don't know about yet? The senior class for 19-20 is real big right now. Pippen, Peterson, Harris, Whittington, Williams, Williamson, and Simmons.

Not all that crazy about some of the baggage a couple of these guys are bringing. Maybe it’s unavoidable in today’s college basketball but I’m not a fan.

Looks like Simons played with Antino Jackson last year. Clearly Jackson said nice things about Kent.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
That sucks. I hope he's smart in where he picks. I feel like he's the type of player that can shine in the right system or find himself out of the rotation by conference play in the wrong system. A 7-foot 260+ lb senior that shoots free throws around 80% will catch the eye of some power conference schools looking for a band-aid. Just hope he doesn't wind up in the situation that the guard from OU found himself in last year, goes from being the guy as a Jr for a MAC school to riding the pine at a big school as a Sr. Best of luck, to him. His passion and worth ethic will be missed.
So with Simons signing we were one over the scholarship count. Any one know if they knew this was coming and that's why they added him? Or will this open a scholarship? I'm a big believer in Danny Pippen and I really liked some of the subtle things I saw from Frederick last year. Outside of those two, this would leave us with Whittington and Duling as our only other posts and the hope was Duling could start playing the 3 more. We got a lot bigger on the wing with this class, so playing one post lineups would be easier. Still, I have a real hard time believing we'd enter the season with only 4 post players on scholarship. Hopefully those 4 guys are having really good summers...

Woa, his injury against Buffalo turned out to be a torn ACL? So he likely won't be playing anywhere this year.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Being a college basketball fan is losing its appeal. I know that’s the lay of the land these days and nothing is going to stop it but that doesn’t mean I have to watch. It’s really no different than following a pro team these days. Constant roster change is the name of the game. If it’s going to be the same as the pro game you might as well watch the pros. They are better. If you like to watch players develop and your only reward is to watch them go elsewhere what’s the point?

Good question, Burden. The days of watching young players come in and develop into a cohesive unit are pretty much over. Each season now is typically a brand new entity, at all levels. Even high school players move around much more than ever before. The players have more "freedom", but the fans can either quit watching, or accept the new realties and try to enjoy it as is.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Have to get used to the player movement. That’s just the way it is now.
Most happy that ADR will receive his degree from KSU. In the long run, that is what is probably most important.
I just hope he fully evaluated his situation, both reasonably & objectively. Not knowing the full extent of his knee issue, but I would find it hard to believe that ADR will have any significant impact with his new program. I had ACL surgery, & the recovery time is significant. Because of this, I do not see this as such a big loss for the Flashes. Normally, it takes close to a year to fully come back from an injury such as a damaged ACL. His height & weight don’t help either with the added stress to the repaired joint.
I believe ADR still has some maturing to do. I was not a fan of his antics: flopping, standing-up opponents, occasional cheap-shots, & overly exuberant & unnecessary celebrating. With all of his assets, he does have some liabilities.
Looking forward to the upcoming year, & am confident the coaching staff will assemble a competitive product.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
I agree with all you say but I just think If college teams are going to change that much from year to year there really is no team anymore. It becomes much like minor league baseball, hockey or G league basketball. At least in the NBA or MLB players have to make commitments whether it is 1 year or 5. You know what you have. Conferences like the MAC are now just minor leagues (not because the basketball isn’t as good but because they are just developing players for the major leagues aka Power 5). I still will watch the game but the commitment to the team will not be there.

Loyola may disagree that mid-major conferences are the minor leagues.

Won't his next stop be de la Rosa's fourth school? That's pretty ridiculous.

We just recruited a guy with two years of eligibility left and we're his 4th school.

dannyb73, good point. But, let's see what they can sustain. George Mason, after its Final Four appearance, was pretty good for another 8 years. Not bad, but they are sub-.500 over the past five years. Butler has continued to be strong. But, can they still even be considered "mid major"? Is Gonzaga still "mid-major"? Yes, mid-majors can have great seasons, or even a long period of success. But, those are really the exceptions. Most "mid-majors" face all the same systemic obstacles.

You’re making my point. If a team stays together it can do some great things. It’s just not going to happen very often anymore. Besides good players leaving, the good teams end up in the top leagues if they sustain sucess (aka Butler). This is what the money wants. A pseudo professional league (soon not to be pseudo). Nothing is going to stop it short term and I realize that, but in my opinion it takes away the uniqueness of college basketball. Next will be a 24 second clock and then a best of 7 for the national championship.

I have news for you. Loyola has lost players due to transfer. Everyone has. And there will NEVER be a best of 7 for the NCAA Championship. The NCAA tournament model is the best championship in all of sports and way to profitable.

Trend in the MAC (see Buffalo) and college basketball is postionless players that move, get up and down and can hit the 3. While Adonis brought some things to the table that others in the MAC don't have I think we might be better off without him.
We have significant athleticism and speed and no offense to adonis but a big 7 footer with a potentially bum knee is only going to slow us down.

You heard it here first. Maybe not a best of 7 but best of three is coming.

Losing Adonis did not kill the team by any means. He is just the poster boy for movement. Four teams during a college career has to make you wonder where all this is headed.
