What Round would you Draft Shawun Lurry?
One of the more exciting defensive players in NIU history. He’s got Jimmie Ward type ball skills. I can see him going in the 5th or 6th round.
Great highlight video- https://youtu.be/M2uNQyRhma8
We don’t almost upset The Ohio State University without him.

Due to his size, I don't see him getting drafted. I think someone will take a flyer on him as a free agent after the draft but at 5'8" and 170 pounds, that is a little small for the NFL. I hate to say it because I love the way he played for NIU, the interception return at Nebraska might be one of the headiest plays by an NIU player in a long time.

I understand the knock on his size. But what I dont get is how Darius Phillips, who's 5'10", is projected in rounds 4 or 5 and ranked in the top 20-30 corners, and Lurry isnt in the top 50 or even searchable as a draft prospect. Phillips is a great athlete, but Lurry is a great corner.

Question, is Phillips faster? also he's more of a return man as he had 4 or 5 returns for touchdowns last year. Plus Lurry is injury prone.

Unfortunately I believe those two inches make a big difference to the NFL especially when most wideouts are in the 6'2"-6'3" range. Also, Phillips has return abilities and Lurry not so much.

I see him finding his niche as a Nickel on passing downs. He did get some opportunities to return punts and showed to be explosive yet reckless with the ball in hand. Carey always went the safe route with Beebe or guys that were most like to fair catch. I’m not sold on Phillips being a better Corner than him though.

RE: What Round would you Draft Shawun Lurry?
After checking the stats, Phillips and Lurry have had very similar careers. So I do get why Phillips is rated higher. But not as much as he is. Is it the notion Phillip's is more dynamic and 2"s taller? Because from what I've read, He's actually 5'9" and change with a 4.50 40 compared to Lurry's 5'8" and 4.45 40. I guess it will all shake out at the combine(If Lurry gets an invite). Im not knocking Phillips. Just perplexed as to why hes ranked 23rd-ish and Lurry is not in the top 50.

Ok so the guys is pretty electric. Plays both Receiver/Cornerback and has the ability to go all the way anytime he touches the ball especially on special teams: youtu.be/NSwLyONd2Oc
( Looking forward to hearing stats about both of their pro-days)

Size, history of injury, one REALLY good year........invite to a camp and a short visit. If he's not listed on draft boards by "experts" there's a reason. Would love to see another Huskie in the NFL but he and Jimmie Ward are not to be used in the same sentence, or even paragraph.
Shawun was a very, very solid collegiate player and if he had most of the six extra inches at 6'2" that Rashaan Melvin has, Lurry would have a real chance. Rashaan, as a current free agent, is very close to cashing in on a huge deal. He's going to get top 20 corner money.

Leading the nation in Interceptions qualifies him as having a great year. You can only have one of those years before teams decide not to throw to your side of the field. His style of play would not make him too small for the NFL. His only knock would be the injuries and his habit for gambling on plays. He played his best games against P5 opponents.

No higher than 4th. He's injury prone and gets burned too often because he's always worried about making a play.

Remember, Melvin was undrafted. Answering the question of what round I would draft Lurry in— -I wouldn’t and I suspect that’s the same for 32 NFL teams. But, given the opportunity to pick his spot, he would be in a much better spot to find a time needing help.
