We might struggle to defend the post though.

Pending the usual off-season losses....

We have 1 incoming freshman signed, DeAndre Gholston, a guard from Indiana. He looks promising

We have 3 guys redshirting now...
Kain Harris, SG, 9.3 ppg last year at Tulane
Philip Whittington, PF - put up 8.5 ppg and 6.1 rpg last year at South Carolina Upstate
Chris Johnson, F, played at Malone last year, 3 ppg, 3 prg

I was expecting that Whittington, Nwankwo, and Frederick would all be equally productive (Nwankwo being a former 3.3 start Big 10 recruit, Frederick being a high-scoring community college guy, and Whittington being productive in DI) but we've seen how Nwankwo and Frederick have panned out, so I'm not holding my breath on any of these guys.

With Harris, his numbers at Tulane are pretty close to what Taishaun Johnson had at South Alabama, and how're we doing with Taishaun?

Thanks, Slinkin Street Flash. A couple of those guys, at least, better be good next year or we're looking at another so-so season. It would help, too, if Duling takes a big step up in his 2nd season.

Agree completely. If Mitch can’t shoot the ball significantly better than he did this year then we can’t use him. He doesn’t do other things well enough to make up for the woeful shooting.

I don't think Harris will be similar to Johnson. Johnson shot under 30% from 3 Harris was at 34% last year. Also Johnson is a lot smaller than Harris. If Harris is a solid defender he'll serve a purpose as a wing defender. Harris played against stronger competition too. My guess is Harris is a solid rotation player at worst.

As for Ali, the JUCO pg, I suspect defense will be the deciding factor if he makes a difference. At 5'11" it could be really tough for him to be on the court with Avery and Walker. So it will be interesting to see what his role becomes. It will also be interesting to see who else we bring in. My guess is guys like Duling and Pippen making strides and AD learning how to protect the ball will be bigger factors in us taking a step next year.

IMO, Duling should be playing more right now. He plays hard and above the rim and beats ADR down the floor. He has become intimidating and just needs more experience.

I agree to an extent. The issue with Duling as I see it is rebounding. He's often out of position for defensive rebounds because he challenges everything. I'd really like to see a lineup with him at the 3 and some combination of Pippen, AD, and Frederick because the rebounding issues become less concerning. Since we lack length on the wing and haven't seen Duling at the 3 though my guess is they don't feel he could reliably guard the perimeter yet.

So may questions marks, "ifs", and maybes. Yeah, I know that is true, to one extent or another, of all mid-majors, but I distinctly recall that one of the reasons for hiring Senderoff was that he was a great recruiter. So far, overall, I haven't really seen that. It may well be better than the MAC average, but hardly outstanding.
