UC still tied for first after shutting out UConn 1-0 at UC last night.
UC is 8-5 in the AAC, 19-17 overall.

That was a huge win. UConn is 24th in the country.
JT Perez struck out 10 in a CG 5 hit shutout.

Great win over another ranked team (Indiana was ranked at the time they lost to UC). UC baseball seems to be heading in the right direction. If UCONN can build a ranked baseball team up in frosty New England, UC certainly can and should. Go 'Cats.
As an aside, I love the baseball uniforms--both the regular and retro versions. UA did good work on these.

We better hope that the Reds get better if we're going to do that. UConn's rise has coincided with the young generation who watched the Red Sox win a few WS and be continuously competitive year to year. Cincinnati kids are not watching or playing baseball at the rate they used to (and the decline is even larger than it is around the nation) and a lot of that is due to them not really having any rooting interest.
Dropped the back end of the series, but still showed out quite nicely. Won game one, lost game two in the 9th and were competitive in game three. It's obvious things are turning around, but coaching can only get us so far...we've got to hope talent can be picked up and developed as well.
Really the three absolutely terrible losses (Miami and Tennessee Martin) and not pulling one out against Tennessee are making our numbers look much worse than they really are. We haven't really been blown out of any game, and have been a play or two away from taking series against UConn (#13 RPI) and UCF (#47 RPI)

That's a great point about the Reds.
I really feel that the Reds did a disservice to local baseball by floating Brandon Phillips trade rumors for his last 3 years here. He was a model citizen, a recognizable face, a great speaker, and an American that any Cincinnati kid could identify with.
Phillips should have been used as a role model for local kids in a "This Could Be You" sort of way. Instead, the Reds made it seem like they couldn't wait to be rid of him.

Brandon Phillips was a locker room cancer. He demanded playing time, wasn't willing to share playing time, and actually hurt the Reds rebuild.

I don't think there is a more divisive reds player than Brandon Phillips. I think he was probably overvalued as a player by the franchise, but gets far too much crap from a portion of the fanbase.

If you want to push an old fart out the door, fine. But don't spend 3 years bad mouthing him in the media first. Especially when a lot of local kids (your future fanbase) grew up idolizing him.

Taking the fam down Saturday. Nice weekend series with some great deals/giveaways.
Took one of the young lads down last Friday. He had a blast! Received a free pennant and caught a foul ball to boot. Saw a 1-0 complete game. He is still talking about it.

Little cold tonight, however entertaining game. Back and forth for most of the game. Let’s sweep KU tomorrow.
