Hopefully you were talking about somebody prior to this post... NOBODY holds out starters in the first half of game one. Truth that most improvement is from game one to game two, which in last season's case was going to be UCF. Did you honestly think any coach would hold out starters in the first game, regardless of weather, so that they could play one of the stronger (didn't know they would be the strongest) team in the AAC in game two?

03-lmfao

Glad you said it...

And good luck convincing a player to sit out the first game of the season when he has been chomping at the bit all year to get out there.

Those players weren't needed in game one....regardless of how much a player is "chompin at the bit", coaches make the overall decision, and injuries are evaluated by trainers and medical staff. This is NOT high school....We needed those players later in the year more than earlier, especially if they weren't as close to 100% as it turned out... Don't know about Gentry's status, I think his injury was just a freak injury, but definitely with Craft and JD....I would have erred on the cautious side

Good thing you're not a coach. That is almost the dumbest strategy I have ever heard. Hold back your best players from playing so that they can't gel, don't get game experience and are cold for when we play the loaded part of the schedule so that we might possibly prevent injury. NONE... I repeat NONE of those injuries happened because they weren't 100%.
Maybe they shouldn't tackle in practice, Brady Davis got hurt two seasons ago in practice and Craft was hurt last year... both out for the year. Wait, with your logic, we shouldn't even practice with the starters because they might get hurt. They'll be ready to play in those big games because they watched films and did walk throughs in Shorts and helmets though, right?!!

Not necessarily

"Dorceus had mostly been a bystander this year as Memphis racked up yards and tried to live up to its preseason billing as one of the country's most explosive offenses. That is why his return to form this past week could bode well with the Tigers (4-1, 1-1 AAC) expecting a high-scoring showdown against No. 24 Navy (5-0, 3-0) on Saturday (2:45 p.m. CT, ESPNU).

Dorceus led the team in rushing with 810 yards during the 2016 campaign but suffered a hamstring injury late in training camp in August. He tried to play in the team’s 2017 opener against Louisiana-Monroe and ended up making the ailment worse while logging two carries."

There obviously have been some mismanagement of injuries of coming back too soon....The was No reason to have MVA (Most Valuable Assets) such as Doreland and Jackson risk season ending injuries as they did by playing in the monsoon. Obviously , they were NOT 100% or as ready to go as some may have assumed.... The weather conditions were too grave for these players and these decisions proved costly later on.....We began the season as the deepest rb core in the country (including TP), ended the season with one serviceable back..

These players services were needed later in the season, and they were NOT available, mainly due to them participating in game action in extreme weather conditions prematurely.....And I do possess the needed credentials and expertise to make this determination

You backtracked on your original comment. At first you said you would hold them for stretch run. Then you changed to assume they aren’t totally healthy. Obviously you don’t play them till totally healthy, but if anyone is cleared and healthy, you play them. No guarantees in sports.injuries happen, losses happen. If healthy you never hold guys out.

Nature/degree/type of injury is VERY important, each player has different thresholds as well as different positions will require different degrees of stresses on injured areas....None of this (what has been said is concrete). That's how you realize that most of those adverse responses, know much of nothing of the subject....

We have had SERIOUS issues with injuries on this team, could have meant the difference in AAC Championship/Winning the LB/Going Unblemished 03-idea

Could have an effective pass rush with swamp donkey and Bonner. Always preferable to have defensive front pressure as opposed to blitzing a linebacker to pressure the QB. The downside is when your ends are "blowing and going" you need strong nose guard and linebacker play to stop the run. We should have both. I think our defensive front will be very good next year. If we find a QB we could be looking at another 10 win or more season.

I would SAVE JD and Craft and Gentry till middle of season, for the stretch run.....I actually could NOT believe some of our MVA's (Most Valuable Assets) were out there going full speed in that monsoon....it really made 0 sense...If they are NOT 100% healthy, save them until they're absolute READY for the long haul....That way, others step up in their absence and are developed for Conference Championship and bowl .....07-coffee3 03-idea

Nothing you say makes any sense. Others "step up" at the end of blowouts and are developed. You want players to not play until the middle of the season and then all of a sudden hit full stride against good competition?

Any coach that sits a bunch of starters and follows this strategy would be rightfully labelled a psycho. Also, when word got out about how our coach is a psycho, it would be impossible to recruit.

We've got 2 or 3 Dudes that should play sparingly in first couple of gimme games, they need to play some for timing, then let them
BRING IT. Now I'm a smart Dude but I'm not a Doctor, if the Doc says let them go the whole gimme games then do it
Personally I'd rather see them Rollin against Mo.and the conference schedule
