RE: What grinds your gears?
I thought I was the only one that didn't like Summer. I hate it...did I say I hate summer? Yes, I do. Not even in your patio with the fans going does it make it palatable. ElPaso autumn and spring and even winter where it stays mostly in the 60s. Wow, that is nice, it even smells nice. If I ever like summer it was because it was summer vacation. Once I graduated it meant working in the hot temperatures and that ain't no picnic. You couldn't even touch the aircraft skin as it was like a frying pan, we had to wear gloves.
Now, when I go outside in the summer I can't imagine that I used to WORK outside and it hardly fazed me. I guess with my old age I've become pampered...and that ain't bad.

This.
I had this talk with my clerk at the liquor store a few hours ago as the thunder and rain poured down.
I worked, daily, in kitchens, indoor and outdoors that were regularly up at 130 degrees.
Guess Coach Clarke’s “no water, that’s for *****”s” policy paid out in some way...
Then we’d get done with that, go jam to the boom box and down a 12 pack, wake up, surf from 7-10, nap, maybe shower and do it ALL over again.
Soft.
Lived in worse schit than these whiners are whining about now.
Go to an infant ward. All them kids are crying...
Dumb people be dumb.
OOOOP!!!
Didn’t know/mean this to be in this apolitical forum/ thread.
Thought I was in the sandbox.
Any mods, feel free to move or delete if needed...

I hear ya.
Raise on a farm so I spent many a summer baling hay and being up in the mow stacking it.
Nothing like a 100+ degree haymow full of dust and being barely able to breath.
I look at it like this. We're not pampered now, we just dealt with the hardships back in the day that allows us to enjoy creature comforts.
Did what you had to to then, live to enjoy the fruits of your labor now.

Must be regional I guess, you get farther north and summer is seen as the time of year you can actually do stuff outdoors instead of hibernating like in February. Having lived in Tampa however I can't say I blame you, though at least they get afternoon thunderstorms that cool it off a bit.

I live in the desert where water hardly falls from the sky. We here would welcome it with open arms. Unfortunately, it comes when the temperature starts going down as in Autumn. Well, at least we can say it's a dry heat, ha, but it's still hot. Tomorrow it's supposed to hit 105 and Friday 107 and then go down to 100. LOL
Why don't I move? Everything I love is here. Sigh. I wish my dad had moved to Denver when he was young then the whole family would be there too.

Right there with you, we’ve gotten so much rain of late, like everyday a deluge, a spring has sprouted not only through the asphalt drive but somehow, somewhere water is seeping up through the cement slab in the garage...
Likely be 10-15 grand between the two.
Ima move to a condo...

You guys just aren't using your "cabezas". If you live in flood prone areas, hurricane and tornado alleys, winter "wonderlands" you do not buy a house. Sure, you'll get equity on them but at what cost? The money you spend on bringing those houses up to snuff (not counting the mental anguish) when the disaster rolls over is not worth it. You'll be spending more and in the end just getting what you put in. RENT! When you rent any headaches that will arise will have to be borne (?) to the renter. You just move on to the next rental home. You'll probably say, "but I'm not getting anything from all the money I paid for renting". True, but you'll be avoiding all those problems I stated above. Besides, what are you REALLY getting after you pay the TAXMAN?
For instance, here in El Paso we hardly ever get natural catastrophes like some of you do so here it's a sorta wise decision to buy but we still have the TAXMAN and in my case I pay approximately $7,000 a year to him. With that money plus a few more I could rent a great place (which in the end soon we probably will because of age). We'll just invest our equity and spend what we would have anyway to the taxman and get rid of all those problems. I've told my wife that if we ever moved to your neck of the woods it would be a rent thingy. But, with her medical problems I doubt we'll ever move from good ol' Hot El Paso.

Wellll, I'm in Central Va., so none of those things, really, except the occasional remnants of a hurricane coming ashore. Last one was 2001, I think.
We've just gotten rock and roll afternoon T-storms every afternoon/evening now for seems like weeks straight. Not had any issue with things like this to this point, not a clue whats going on with the garage.

Effin' litterbugs.
We've been out kayaking the river the past two weekends and come back with our cargo areas filled with other people's trash. WTF would posses someone to be in such a gorgeous area and throw down garbage?

They weren't taught how bad littering is. I tried teaching my sons and I sure hope they learned. That's all you can do. Which brings me to this story. My ex-wife was driving with her friend in the passenger seat. Well, this lady takes upon herself to open the window and throw a paper out the window. My Ex gets on her case and literally scolds her, which suprised her. Maybe if more people could get a scolding for littering from their friends maybe it would impact their memory the next time they feel like littering.
Heck, my wife laughs at me because I'll pick up a paper or two at store parking lots. If more people did this, picking up at least one paper trash that trash wouldn't fly around all over town.

RE: What grinds your gears?
Trash is going to kill us. It's something we really need to address. I'm all in favor of going back to the old days when you paid 2 cents for a coke bottle and got it back when you returned it. Same for all other packaging. Maybe 2 cents if it's recyclable and a nickel if it's not.
And friends tell me that we could replace a lot of plastics with hemp products that would be biodegradable. How hard would that be to do?
Conservatives need to come forward with a conservation-based environmental approach. If it isn't conservative to conserve, then something is wrong with the English language.

Hope you don't have to drive on a highway in Chicago anytime soon...
I'm not much of a tree-hugging fanatic but there are certain measures (e.g. dime tax on paper or plastic bags, bottle return tax) that have some merit. Humans are disgusting creatures in many ways.
