Should be a huge addition to both our running game (FB) and special teams.

+1. We need every athlete we can get our hands on.

Pretty impressive to get this talent and Bloom has not coached a game yet.

I hope the talent we get after he coaches a year will make this seem substandard.

Edwin Freeman transferring from Texas. Immediately eligible. Would be a great pickup to add to our linebacking corps.

Indeed. Would be a nice trade of Graduate Seniors.

So, that makes new transfers from P5 schools: Vandy QB, UCLA athlete/FB, Florida OL, and Texas LB....any others I'm missing?
Cannot wait to see these guys in action soon...

The Texas LB is not definitely coming here. I just mentioned him as a potential prospect.

Yea and it’s not like the other guys were going to start at their P5 schools. We’re getting guys who value a degree and are thinking of life after football not P5 stars. The seniors we had leave are a much bigger loss than what we’ve gained.

Yup. Andrew Mike was a pre-med at UF and is doing the master's in Global health or whatever it is as a bridge much like many Rice pre-meds do a MPH before med school.

You tend to have a good grasp on what's going on but I don't think the football graduate transfers we lost are as irreplaceable as you think. Anderson always seemed to be a step below his potential and the defensive starters were multi-year starters on a unit which always under-impressed. Cephus was the only guy we lost who I will miss. The UCLA transfer in particular will be an impact player for us.

In terms of the UT transfer, I have no information on the guy who is transferring now, but a year from now if Cameron Townsend wants to do the same thing (play somewhere as a graduate transfer), we should definitely go after him. He has been buried on the UT depth chart for years but he's a good player and a really good kid who can make it at Rice.

Aaron Cephus is still at Rice.

Are you thinking of Miklo Smalls?

It’s football so it’s a lot easier to replace these guys compared to basketball, but the guys we lost are stepping up to the P5 because they want a year just to focus on football. Think Egor in basketball... The guys we’re getting want to play another year of football while getting a graduate degree from a better school... think every graduate transfer we’ve ever had for basketball. Sure they’ll contribute but I don’t think we win those trades.

Cephus is still here and should be our star receiver this year if we have someone to throw to him. We have several big body receivers with that 6’5 freshman coming in.

My bad. I guess I was thinking of Kylen Granson. Cephus is probably a better prospect than Granson, but Granson has/had potential too I thought.

Cephus did express some frustration around the Spring game with his lack of touches. We'll see how his mindset evolves as we get a clearer picture of the offense and personnel.

Anybody have any insight as to why Granson transferred?

The receiver from Houston Kinkaid, Rhett Cardwell, got most of the targets in the spring game. He looked really good! Perhaps that is why some of the other WRs are disgruntled (just speculating).
